THE INTERCULTURAL PROGRAMME  

The Intercultural Programme at Collegio San Carlo was the first bilingual programme at Primary level in a traditional Italian school .

The main objective of this  program is to enrich the curriculum established by the Italian Ministry of Education through content and activities taken from other international curricula and to deliver 50% of the subjects in the English language.

Each Intercultural class is co-taught  by an English and an Italian classroom teacher. Subjects required to be taught by the English teachers are: English , Science, Geography, and  Information Technology, There are bilingual or mothertongue specialist teachers for Art, PE and Music too.  

The school has also started projects in Coding, Robotics and Augmented Reality that are cross curricular.  

ROLE SUMMARY

Primary school teachers develop schemes of work and lesson plans in line with curriculum objectives. They facilitate learning by establishing a good relationship with pupils, by their organisation of learning resources and the classroom  environment.

They develop and foster the appropriate skills and social abilities to enable the optimum development of children, according to age, ability and aptitude. They assess and record progress. They link pupils' knowledge to earlier learning and develop ways to encourage it further. Primary school teachers challenge and inspire pupils to help them deepen their knowledge and understanding.

They are able to teach all areas of the primary curriculum,take responsibility for the progress of a class, organise the classroom and learning resources to create a positive learning environment,plan, prepare and present lessons that cater for the needs of the whole ability range, maintain discipline, prepare and mark to facilitate positive pupil development, provide feedback to parents on a pupil's progress at parents' meetings, work with others to plan and co-ordinate work with flexibility ,are up to date with changes and developments in the structure of the curriculum are willing to take part in school events and activities as a Community.

The following qualifications, experience and skills are required:

  • At least 3-4 years of teaching at Primary level 
  • Bachelor’s In Education 
  • Recognised Teaching Qualification (PGCE or similar)
  • Be an excellent team worker
  • Prior experience with ESL students a plus 
  • Knowledge of Italian a plus
  • Experience and training in Coding and  Robotics
  • Must also hold an EU passport or valid working papers for Italy
