Primary Music Teacher and Project Officer

One-Year Contract, Term Time Only

Future Academies, a Multi-Academy Trust, includes three primary schools and seven secondary schools in and around London and Hertfordshire. We are motivated by a mission of social change and reducing educational inequality.

Future Academies have recently reviewed their music provision in the primary schools with the help of London Music Masters (LMM) to put music at the heart of the school. The review recommended we run two streams of music lessons through the curriculum: a musicianship programme and an instrumental programme. The musicianship programme will run from Reception to Year 6 and will give students an understanding of the key concepts of music through active engagement in music. Students will learn the concepts of pulse, rhythm, pitch, dynamics, tempo, and timbre through practical and musical pedagogies.

Alongside the musicianship curriculum, there will be an instrumental programme for KS2 students where students will have the opportunity to play a range of classroom instruments.

Aims and Objectives

A good musical education can be central to developing us as people; helping us to connect and work together, to grow and learn. At Future Academies, we believe that all children should have the chance to engage with sustained, high-quality musical training. 

As we look to develop our instrumental programme across all three Primary Schools, we are searching for a dynamic individual to lead on concerts and eventually practical examinations.

• To provide access to high-quality musical tuition, music-making, and musical education to children who would otherwise not have this opportunity  
• To engage participants in the process of learning and support their personal development through music
• To provide wider opportunities to participants and a supportive environment with the resources for students to make the most of our instrumental programme

The Projects Officer - You will be an important member of the Future Academies Primary team. You will work across the three primary schools as a “Music Projects Officer” as well as lead both musicianship and instrumental lessons for KS1 and KS2 students in Westminster. In this role, you will work flexibly as a member of a small and dynamic team, working together to make a long-term difference for our academy pupils. You will be asked to work on, and lead, various projects.

As a Projects Officer, you will build relationships with external bodies to support the music programme across our three primary schools. Create and implement an instrumental development plan to benefit our three primary schools, liaise with other teaching staff and lead on CPD. 

Music Teacher - You will play a key role in contributing to and providing an excellent education for all academy pupils by teaching with expertise and enthusiasm and offering support to the learning and development of individual students. 

Duties/Expectations of a teacher at Pimlico Academy

• teach, to an outstanding level, all years, abilities, and qualifications;
• deepen the scholarly nature of both the subject and the Academy;
• arrange, lead and contribute to workshops, extension programmes, competitions, trips, open days, prep, and so on;
• undertaking administrative duties and other tasks as delegated by the Head of Education Enrichment;
• enhance the quality of teaching and learning across the three primaries by sharing resources and good practice, lesson observation, collaborative teaching, and mentoring 
• support the Academy’s aims and objectives for teaching and learning and Raising Aspirations Programme.
