Job overview

The Primary PESSPA Lead will work as part of our Primary Directorate to research, develop and implement Astrea-wide strategies for improving attainment and progress in Physical Education, School Sport and Physical Activity within our primary schools. Working in partnership with the Astrea Education Team, Academy Principals, PE Leads and other Astrea staff, the role involves developing a rigorous KS1&2 PE curriculum and an approach to teaching that aligns with the trust’s common pedagogies, as well as co-ordinating opportunities for intra- and inter-school competitions and working closely with external partners to secure elite pathways into regional opportunities for pupils with exceptional talent and ability.

Astrea Academy Trust is excited to appoint a skilled, professional leader to support our 18 South Yorkshire primary academies in developing their PESSPA provision. We are highly ambitious on behalf of our pupils and recognise that to give them meaningful physical literacy for life, we need to invest in a high-quality PE curriculum, genuine activity and competitive sporting opportunities as well as exceptional staff development to truly make a difference. We are looking for an innovative, motivational and self-motivated expert to significantly develop all aspects of PESSPA so that each of our primary academies can honestly boast a transformational offer for every one of our 5000+ primary pupils.

Full details of this equally challenging and inspiring specialist leadership role can be found in the attached candidate pack.  Russell Gray, our Regional Director, leading on recruitment to the role, would be pleased to arrange an informal conversation with prospective candidates via email on  Russell.Gray@AstreaAcademyTrust.org

Astrea Academy Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All posts are subject to satisfactory background checks including references and enhanced DBS checks.

Astrea Academy Trust is delighted to be part of such an important movement as the Disability Confident Employer Scheme, which will ensure we have the guidance to challenge attitudes towards disability, tap into wider talent pools and help all individuals across the Trust fulfil their potential and realise their aspirations. As a Disability Confident Employer we have pledged to promote a culture that ensures there are no barriers to the development and progression of disabled staff.
