Qatar Foundation Schools is seeking an exceptional educational leader to serve as the next Primary School Principal of Awsaj Academy effective August 1, 2018.

The Primary School Principal is responsible for all aspects of the Grade KG-5 school’s program. A detailed description of the position including qualifications, attributes and responsibilities is included at the end of this document.

School Description

Awsaj was established in 2003 as The Learning Center School and was housed within Qatar Academy. It was rebranded in 2011 when it moved to its own purpose built facility. Awsaj is a school that teaches in English and Arabic as a primary language and Arabic as the medium of instruction for Islamic Studies, and Qatar History and Citizenship. Awsaj is a full Kindergarten to Grade 12 School and is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA) and Council of International Schools (CIS).

Student Body

Awsaj has a total student enrollment of 454 students for the 2017-18 school year with 190 of those students in the elementary school.

Location Description

Awsaj is located within Education City, Doha. Doha is the capital of Qatar – a sovereign Arab state – located in Western Asia and occupying the small Qatar Peninsula on the northeasterly coast of the Arabian Peninsula. Its sole land border is with Saudi Arabia to the south, with the rest of its territory surrounded by the Arabian Gulf.

Position Overview

In collaboration with the Educational Leadership Team and the Administrative Team, the Primary School Principal is responsible for the effective development, delivery, and evaluation of all educational programs, including academic and pastoral elements.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Education or an Honors Degree, QTS and postgraduate qualifications in educational leadership.
  • Relevant experience in the field of Special Education and ELL
  • Extensive experience in developing literacy
  • Relevant leadership experience
  • Experience building and maintaining an effective school culture
  • Extensive experience in leading dynamic change and growth
  • A deep understanding of the diverse needs of children at various stages of their development
  • Understanding and experience of best educational practices
  • Understanding and experience with fostering interdisciplinary planning and teaming
  • Understanding and experience in integrating technology into curriculum to improve student achievement

General Responsibilities

The Primary School Principal will: 

  • Provide exemplary educational leadership
  • Assist in the recruitment and retention of outstanding staff
  • Assign, organize and evaluate staff
  • Promote a strong culture of professional growth through dynamic support, supervision and evaluation of teachers and instructional support staff
  • Promote a collaborative and cohesive learning culture
  • Sustain, further develop, and lead a strong literacy and math program for struggling students
  • Ensure that all decisions and processes are designed to improve student learning
  • Ensure that the school meets all authorization and accreditation requirements
  • Ensure that the school is aligned with all accreditation requirements
  • Provide clear protocols and processes to ensure regular, quality communication between home and school
  • Work with the teachers on curriculum development and professional development planning
  • Oversee programs which support exemplary student behavior
  • Oversee the elementary school admissions process
  • Assist with the development and management of the school’s operational budgets
  • Work with parents in a dynamic, thoughtful and proactive way
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Director

Salary is highly competitive and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
