Job overview

Tes is supporting the appointment of a Primary SEN Teacher at an organisation based in Barking and Dagenham.

The organisation is an independent social enterprise, providing specialist therapeutic education in London, supporting exceptional neurodiverse children and young people aged 7 to 19 who have special educational needs and disabilities typically associated with autism, social emotional and mental health needs and associated disorders. Most of them will have experienced multiple placement breakdowns and significant trauma, often resulting in behaviour that challenges. On average pupils will have been excluded from other provisions up to three times before reaching us and had significant periods out of education.

The organisation is seeking an experienced and passionate, primary qualified Nurture Teacher for their growing primary specific provision.

The provision caters for Key Stage 2 pupils with complex needs who require an intensive nurturing and therapeutic approach to enable them to access the curriculum.

Essential requirements to be successful in the role are:

  • Be a Qualified Primary Teacher (holding QTS, QTLS or equivalent) with minimum of 2 years post-qualification teaching experience in either the Primary or SEND sector.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development in education.
  • Experience of supporting neurodiverse children with SEND, including Autism (ASD / ASC) and/or Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH), and an understanding of potential implications for communication, learning and behaviour patterns.
  • Able to act as a positive role model, providing nurturing approach, building key relationships with pupils and their families.
  • An interest in using therapeutic education principles to provide a holistic approach to learning.
  • Resilient and hard worker with a never give up attitude.

All applicants need to have the Right to Work in the UK to be considered for the role.
