Salary is dependent on experience, training or qualifications. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this position is: Experience working with children, young people or adults in a school or similar environment. 

This is a warm, welcoming, aspirational school providing a supportive and stimulating environment tailored to unique young people with special educational needs and disabilities.

Learning approaches are sensory, vocational and in some instances, more formal, according to the individual student’s learning pathway and preferences.  The school focuses on all areas of learning and development – social, emotional, physical, communication and language and cognitive.

This Primary Special Needs Teaching Assistant role will involve working with children and young people requiring high levels of support with learning as well as in some instances, with all aspects of personal care (such as assistance with feeding, changing, and toileting as part of some young people’s care plan)

We are looking for staff who are supportive but encourage independence wherever possible. 

Communication skills including the use of AAC such as Makaton and PECS will be highly advantageous, the ability to work as part of an efficient and well run team

Manual Handling and Team Teach Training is also highly advantageous, however training or a refresher course can be provided free of charge by Vision for candidates who can offer other relevant skills.

Essential personal attributes include a calm, caring, positive manner, efficiency in working practices and the ability to be a consistent and effective member of the staff team.

Staff will ideally have worked with children or young people with special educational needs within a school, residential, day, activity or respite setting.

All staff we register will undertake thorough interviewing and referencing checks and hold, or be prepared to undergo, an Enhanced DBS check that must be registered on the Update Service.
