Azerbaijan British College (ABC) (former name is the Baku Talents Education Complex) is recruiting a Primary Teacher to join our school for an August 2018 start.
We are looking for creative, enthusiastic teachers with a strong commitment to pastoral care for our Primary phase. Successful candidates must hold a UK (or equivalent) teaching qualification and will be responsible for the teaching, learning and pastoral care of a primary school class. A willingness to support extra-curricular activities is expected and the ability to use ICT in the classroom to enhance learning is essential.
Established in 2013, ABC is a new, non-profit education initiative sponsored by Azerbaijan’s State Oil Company, SOCAR. The buildings are spacious and there is room for further expansion in the future. In addition to classrooms, there are well equipped laboratories, two computer laboratories, facilities for Art and Music, library, fully equipped theatre, indoor six-lane swimming pool, indoor sports hall and a large fitness room with the latest equipment, and a planetarium.
At present, the school has pupils from Nursery through to Year 12, and a year 13 class (second year of A-level) will open in September 2018. Pupils follow the curriculum of England and Wales, but with focus on an international outlook. Those whose nationality is Azerbaijani (about 80% of the current roll) must also fulfil the requirements of the national government regarding the study of their country’s history and language. The maximum class size is 18 pupils.

The right candidate will:
Use in-depth knowledge of the 2014 National Curriculum to provide a relevant and challenging learning experience for all students
Have knowledge and experience of using innovative pedagogical approaches within planning, teaching and learning
Provide language rich learning environments to ensure rapid English language acquisition
Ensure the children are cared for in a happy, safe and stimulating environment
Maintain accurate formative and summative assessment records that link to all learning
Provide critical analysis of the progress, intervention and achievement for all children
Actively participate in and offer areas of staff CPD
Applications are warmly welcomed from suitably qualified candidates. The initial contract is for one year, in accordance with the country’s labour code, but can be renewed by mutual consent. As we cater to the needs of children from nearly 20 different countries, ABC has an international approach to teaching. We have qualified teachers with a wide international experience and various cultural backgrounds. Our teaching community currently consists of more than 80 members of staff from all five continents.
Candidates applying should have:
- A detailed CV with a current photograph including three references (unless you are NQT) with their professional email addresses and contact telephone numbers
- A teaching degree, such as a B.Ed., PGCE, PGDE or equivalent would be preferred.
- Minimum of 1 - 2 years of teaching experience, Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs) are welcomed to apply as well.
- Candidates with previous work experience should provide reference letters.
- Applicants should be able to take up the position in the last decade of August 2018.
