Job overview

Who we are looking for:

Primary teachers for all age groups required (Years 1 & 2, Years 3 & 4 and Years 5 & 6) for our lovely small independent school in the countryside just 10 minutes from historic Oxford!

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated teachers preferably with experience, who are creative and think outside the box, enjoy being outside, put the child’s learning needs first and who are nurturing with a good sense of humour. You must have the ability to work well within a team and be a good communicator, who can also actively engage with parents.

If you’ve ever longed to be outside the mainstream and yet free from the strictures of traditional private education - this is your moment!  We’re a truly family based, holistic and progressive school and our settings and community are unique.  We’re also established, which means good opportunities going forward.  We know how not to ‘micromanage’ teachers so you can do what you do best, inspirationally teach!

Possible qualifications / QTS, PGCE, Montessori diploma considered.

Who we are:

Oxford Montessori Schools was established 28 years ago based on Montessori principles.  We believe in a holistic approach to learning, that children should enjoy and take ownership of their learning. We are small by design and pride ourselves on being a close-knit community where everyone's needs are catered for. The school buildings are converted from an old Victorian dairy and still retain their original features. All the classrooms are beautiful and lead out onto the lovely gardens where the children have access to 8 acres of land.  There are many interesting spaces; a sports barn, an adventure playground, a greenhouse and vegetable growing gardens, a developing wildflower meadow, a coppice wood of 4000 hazel trees  where Forest Schools takes place.  We’re developing our sports offers year on year and organise tournaments with similar sized schools.

We’re one of the few schools in England that offer Montessori / Progressive methods for children above nursery age.  At the main school site, Forest Farm School, children are between 2-16. The first primary classes were established 18 years ago and 11 years ago we began a senior school for children up to 16 years old. Our 3 primary classes are interlinked and are small classes of 15 -18 children, they are of mixed ages, each class incorporating around two year groups. Our ethos, based on Montessori principles, encourages children to work at their own pace in a non pressurised environment.  We offer a personalised tailored curriculum, thus highly individualised learning, and we deliver it in a creative and hands-on way.  Outside learning and project based learning are a big part of what we do and we offer a curriculum which nurtures and develops the whole child whilst ensuring each child reaches their potential.

We have a strong and dedicated staff of around 30 people with about 100 pupils on the main site.  Many teachers have stayed within our small group for over 10 years, some for 20+!

The primary curriculum is further enriched by specialist teachers regularly coming into the primary classes for subjects/topics such as drama, music, Forest schools, sports and Spanish.

Please see our website to learn more about us.www.oxfordmontessori.co.uk

Where we are: Forest Farm School is in the tiny village of Elsfield which has a church and not much else!  There are lovely footpaths through countryside and forests but being just 10 minutes outside Oxford city it has the best of both worlds.

Getting to us: You’ll need your own transport as there is no local public transport. Accommodation in the city can be found within a short cycling distance of the school, so many cycle in but most drive.

Applying:  We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and an enhanced DBS disclosure will be required.

We are an equal opportunities employer, selecting employees solely on merit irrespective of gender, ethnic origin, religion, disability, sexual orientation or age.

Visits to the school are welcome before application by appointment only: please write to Teresa Andrews at admin@oxfordmontessori.co.uk

For further information please see www.oxfordmontessori.co.uk

Please use the on-line application form on the TES website to make your application.

The application deadline is Thursday 26th April.  We very much look forward to hearing from you and working with you!
