Job overview

Our students are amazing. They are clever, kind and a joy to work with. They inspire, challenge and drive us as professionals to deliver the highest standards of education and care; to fill their school life with academic rigour, compassion and laughter. School is a busy and varied place of work (definitely not your normal 9-5!) but, as a team, we work together to reach out, find solutions and truly make a difference in the lives of young people.

The role of Primary Teacher (Primary-Secondary) is a new post, has been agreed with the Local Authority and is offered as a full time, fixed term post initially until August 2023, although we envisage it being extended until August 2025.  It is linked directly to two students entering Year 9 who each have an EHCP and complex special educational needs.  The role also attracts an SEN 1 Allowance which is reflective of the additional needs of the role above and beyond a standard teaching role.

We are looking for an outstanding teacher who is fully committed to the support and development of students with SEND.  It is essential that the successful candidate has a willingness to ‘think outside the box’ working dynamically, creatively and collaboratively with the Assistant Headteacher (SENCo) and Deputy SENCo to ensure that the educational experience and outcomes for these students is exceptional.

These are exciting times for the Inclusion department at Saint Gregory’s.  Due to the growth in numbers of students that we support with SEND, we have recently:

• introduced a new structure within the department from September 2021.  In addition, all departments in the school have a nominated teacher ‘champion’ linked to the Inclusion department.

• moved to a larger area of the school to accommodate our growing team.  This space includes a dedicated teaching room with a suite of computers for students, and a separate therapeutic area / wellbeing area.

• invested in professional development for all staff, e.g. we are currently working with the MITA (Maximising the Impact of Teaching Assistants) programme.  Developing the skills and expertise of colleagues across the school is important to us.

We encourage all candidates interested in applying for this post to submit their application as soon as possible and before the deadline of midnight on Sunday 12 June 2022.

Saint Gregory’s is a popular 11-18 co-educational school, founded on Catholic Christian values and with a strong family and community ethos. These values are the foundation of learning for our students, providing them with an academic start to life that is supportive, nurturing and inspiring. Saint Gregory’s has a well-deserved reputation for academic excellence, outstanding pastoral care and an excellent enrichment programme.  Our most recent Ofsted and Diocesan inspections judged us to be outstanding in every area and we are committed to maintaining and developing that high standard.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate:

• A track record of exceptional SEN teaching and experience

• Capable of differentiating / scaffolding work across the Key Stages

• Broad curriculum knowledge including primary level experience, ideally at KS1 and KS2

• A willingness to participate in the wider life of the school including enrichment and PSHE delivery

• The ability to inspire excellence in students

• Enthusiasm and motivation for exemplary teaching and learning

In return the successful candidate can expect:

• A comprehensive Induction programme

• Outstanding professional support at every stage of your career

• A strong Continuing Professional Development programme to develop you as an outstanding teacher

• A supportive Senior Leadership Team

• Opportunities to work in a dynamic and supportive faculty with excellent facilities

• Access to the Teachers’ Pension Scheme

• A positive student body who love learning

Saint Gregory’s is a Catholic voluntary aided secondary school which was established by the Diocese of Clifton. It primarily serves designated Catholic parishes in Bath and North East Somerset, North West Wiltshire and the north of the County of Somerset and admits students of 11-18 years. We are a popular co-educational school, founded on Catholic Christian values and with a strong family and community ethos. These values envelop the learning of our students, providing them with an academic start to life that is supportive, nurturing and inspiring. Saint Gregory’s has a well-deserved reputation for academic excellence, outstanding pastoral care and an excellent enrichment programme.

In 2019 we were recognised once again as an ‘Outstanding’ secondary school in our Section 48 Diocesan Inspection, highlighting our school as a flourishing educational community where every child is valued and encouraged to grow as individuals. In November 2022, our first Ofsted inspection since July 2013 recognised St Gregory’s as Good overall with Outstanding judgements for Behaviour and Attitudes and Personal Development.

Our GCSE and A Level results are excellent, and not just in raw terms but also in the context of value-added. Such measures seek to identify the progress that every child makes during his or her time with us and show that our students make outstanding progress.

The achievement of our students consistently places our school as one of the top achieving state schools in the country. Students leaving Saint Gregory’s progress to some of the very best academic institutions including Oxford, Cambridge and the Russell Group but, more than this, they leave having acquired the academic success, confidence and skills they need to continue their educational or career journey of choice.

We are located at the southern gateway to the World Heritage City of Bath with beautiful views towards the Severn Estuary and over Bath. Access to the school is easy as it is on main bus routes and next to the Odd Down Bath Park and Ride terminus.

The World Heritage City of Bath itself needs little introduction. Over four million tourists a year come to visit its many attractions such as its Georgian architecture, its festivals, theatres, museums, restaurants and shops. It boasts excellent schools, rugby and football teams and Olympic standard training facilities at the University of Bath.

Bath is served by many attractive towns and villages and our staff and students come from diverse locations and backgrounds within our extensive catchment area.

There is a warm, welcoming family atmosphere at Saint Gregory’s that underpins our culture as a school. Teamwork is at the heart of everything we do and by working together we aim to provide the very best opportunities for all our students and staff.

If you would like to be a part of this successful and thriving school and are a well-qualified and highly motivated professional, who shares our sense of values, we would like to hear from you.
