Description St James’ Primary School, Kotara South is seeking a temporary part time (0.4 FTE) Primary Teacher to join the team for 2022 working Thursday and Friday.

St James’ Primary School, Kotara South is a Catholic systemic school in the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle, catering for students from Kindergarten to Year 6. With contemporary evidence-based teaching and learning, St James’ uses a collaborative and personalised approach where teachers and students work together to create a stimulating and engaging learning environment. Position Requirements Teachers in a Catholic school have a unique role to play and are assigned with the task of ensuring each child has the opportunity to grow both academically and spiritually and to live purposeful lives.

The teacher will promote the school as a place of learning and excellence in accordance with contemporary evidence-based learning and wellbeing principles (including digital learning) and will ensure the ongoing development and implementation of pedagogical practices that impact on student learning outcomes.

Essential Criteria • Catholic, with the ability to articulate a personal commitment to Catholic Education (Primary and Religion Teachers only)

• Willingness to actively support the Catholic identity of the school

• Ability to apply appropriate knowledge in order to plan and prepare contemporary and compliant teaching programs and assessments in all KLA's which meet the diverse characteristics, needs and learning styles of students

• Has highly developed interpersonal skills.

• Demonstrates high level communication, organisational, teamwork skills.

• Ability to work as part of a stage team

• Demonstrates an understanding of Positive Behaviour for Learning and its impact in the primary school setting

• Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to a culture of continuous improvement within the school environment

• Willingness to Comply or Compliance with the CSO Accreditation to Work, Teach and Lead Policy. Category B or D – Accreditation to Teach or Accreditation to Teach Religion.

The applicant must provide evidence of the following:

• Qualifications as a four year trained teacher;

• Current NESA Accreditation;

• Current Paid Working with Children Check (WWCC) number;

• Completion of Anaphylaxis training

St James’ Primary School is a mixed, independent, Roman Catholic, mainstream primary school in Kotara South. It caters to students in Kindergarten to Year 6, with approximately 218 pupils enrolled.

St James’ Primary School was founded on 31st January 1961 in Garden Suburb. It was run by two sisters of Mercy in a building that was originally the operating theatre from the Great Migrant Camp. It has close affiliations with the YMCA to help further enhance the education they provide.

The school’s recent refurbishment added a new administration building, three new classrooms, a covered outdoor learning area, a library and computer lab and an area for learning support. Classrooms put technology first and foremost and are now equipped with internet and interactive whiteboards, as is the library.

Curriculum

St James’ emphasises the importance of academic subjects such as maths, science and English. It provides plenty of opportunity for development in sports and the arts, including a school band, debating team, violin group, environmental team and school leadership.

The school aims to provide a quality, holistic educational programme for its students that fosters each individuals’ expression, creativity and needs. They work hard to produce a Catholic community that reflects the values of Christ and their motto, ‘In faith we learn’.
