Position Requirements • a relevant understanding of the philosophy of Catholic Education.
• ability to teach in the primary curriculum area K-6.
• high level knowledge of the relevant key learning area (K-6) and a proven capacity to improve student learning.
• high quality classroom teaching skills in the area of ES1 - 3 which enable students with a diverse range of needs to achieve their full potential.
• exemplary values and attitudes appropriate to professional practice and the intellectual, physical and social development of students.
• ability to successfully implement and evaluate curriculum initiatives in accordance with curriculum and standards framework.
• demonstrated capacity to reflect critically upon professional practice and commitment to ongoing professional learning.
• commitment and capacity to actively contribute to a broad range of school activities as a member of the school team.
• high level of communication and interpersonal skills when relating to students, parents and other teachers.
Essential Criteria Applicant must
• be appropriately qualified as a four year trained primary teacher
• be a practising Catholic
• record current NESA and Working With Children number on application.
• evidence of completion of Anaphylaxis training certificate must be supplied. (https://etraining.allergy.org.au/login/index.php) Note: To start or return to working as a teacher in a NSW school, you must be accredited by NESA.

About St Joseph's Primary School

St Joseph’s Primary, Merriwa, is a small Catholic, K-6, co-educational, school located in the Hunter Valley region, north of Sydney, New South Wales. It is a member of the Catholic School system in the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle and serves the Parish of St Anne’s. Founded in 1883 by Catholic parents who hired the first teacher, the school now has a current enrolment of 68 students who thrive within the wonderful close-knit community that is St Joseph’s Primary School.

A well-resourced rural school with welcoming classrooms and grassy, spacious playgrounds, Merriwa School presents as a motivational learning environment for their students. Technology resources feature prominently in each classroom and the school’s musical resources are of a very high quality and are used within a tutoring program operated by the Upper Hunter Conservatory of Music.

Curriculum

A comprehensive Religious Curriculum set by the Maitland-Newcastle Diocese is implemented across all classes within the school. This subject is taught alongside the six key learning areas as stipulated in the NSW Board of Studies Syllabuses. Students are taught by example to become problem solving and forward thinkers and to demonstrate an appreciation of the environment and their responsibility for its preservation. Curriculum differentiation is considered a priority for teaching staff as they design programs to meet each student’s specific individual needs.
