Job overview

Currently celebrating its 50th anniversary, Halesowen College has established itself as a leading centre for training in education and learning for the communities of Dudley, Sandwell and West Birmingham. The college’s aim is to recognise the individual needs of learners and put in place support and direction through the delivery of an inclusive portfolio of provision from entry level to higher education. To this end, it offers the opportunity to resit GCSEs, 37 A level subjects and over 100 vocational courses to 6000 students as well as the delivery of foundation degree and level 4 courses from its new University Centre.

Halesowen College has always taken a collaborative approach to post 16 provision and, following its area review, is now an active member of the new Black Country Colleges Group. It is also a co- sponsor of the King Edward’s and Halesowen Colleges’ Academy Trust.

Having led the college with distinction, securing its Ofsted good judgement, overseeing the development of state of the art facilities and ensuring a robust financial position, the current Principal has chosen to retire.

The corporation now seeks to appoint a Principal with a real commitment to community based, inclusive provision to provide the inspirational leadership and strategic direction the college requires. It is looking for someone who can lead a college that is outstanding in terms of standards and fully inclusive in terms of provision. A figurehead, who can engage with local schools, higher education institutions, businesses and fellow post 16 providers to position the college at the heart of its community.

Our next Principal must continue our journey, demonstrating a passion for education and students and a desire to transform lives through learning. An exceptional leader, you will realise the benefits of our student centred and innovative teaching and learning strategy and explore local and regional employer opportunities. You will be driven by a commitment to achieve the best for our learners and be able to lead and nurture a talented team in order to enhance our high quality offer.

Values and vision

Halesowen College aims to give students a sense of personal responsibility for their own education. It believes that this is a necessary part of becoming an adult, and that it is excellent practice for university life and the working world.

The college also believes in giving back to the community, through activities such as litter picking in the parks, raising money for local charities, and collecting for the Black Country Food Bank.

Ofsted report

"The college’s response to meeting the needs and interests of learners and employers and its approach to educational and social inclusion are outstanding. The very good range of courses includes an increasing amount of relevant vocational courses and Train to Gain provision. Many learners from areas of high deprivation progress well within the college and to higher education."
