Job overview

Due to the pending retirement of the current Principal an extremely rewarding opportunity has arisen at Seevic College. The new Principal will be responsible for approximately 330 staff and 2,500 students on our single site.

The right candidate is expected to have strong leadership skills with an equal focus on teaching and learning and quality improvement. He/she must be capable of substantially accelerating the pace of change and improvement, notably in achieving consistency of outcomes, and in securing outstanding teaching and learning.

The community-focused college has significantly improved its outcomes, with strong value added across A-levels and BTECs, above average apprenticeship completion rates, strong GCSE maths results and above average and improving GCSE English. The college has a small but high quality HE provision. In spite of demographic decline and strong competition, including the growth of new local 6th forms, the college met its enrolment targets this year and is recruiting strongly for 2016/17. The Principal should be a strong advocate of the college, able to network and build on current partnerships, and to represent the college in the local community.

Apprenticeships are growing, and the college is well placed to play its part in implementing the government’s apprenticeship growth strategy. The Principal should be able not only to drive further growth in apprenticeships but also to support the college’s extensive BTEC provision in developing a clearer line of sight to work. Foundation, Level 1 and Level 2 provision now accounts for 25% of the college’s work, and the development of progression pathways for these learners is a key target.

Finances are strong, however, new models of delivery and new ways of working will be needed to face the challenges of continued austerity, and the Principal will need to drive this process. Strong learner progress and exceptional progression to sustained employment, education or training make the college a strong contributor to the regional economy. The new Principal will (with the Chair of Governors) develop and take forward the college’s plans to the Area Review process, which is expected to start at the end of this year.

Our Principal will be able to demonstrate:

  • Extensive experience of leadership in Further/ Higher/Vocational Education, preferably in a good or outstanding institution;
  • Visionary leadership, with strategic thinking coupled with a commercial outlook;
  • That they are inspirational and credible, with well-developed interpersonal and influencing skills;
  • Strong, credible leadership in a challenging climate with the ability to influence and translate vision into success;
  • The ability to secure cultural change;
  • A successful track record of raising standards and meeting challenging targets; and
  • Commitment to the community.

In return we offer a rewarding career with a competitive salary, generous holiday entitlement, private medical insurance and pension.
