Job overview

Located on an attractive campus close to Scunthorpe town centre, with an easy commute from much of the North East and Yorkshire, yet on the fringes of both the Lincolnshire Wolds and the Peak District, John Leggott College has been providing the highest quality academic Sixth Form College (16-18) education in the area for almost 50 years.

At John Leggott College, we are very proud of our students’ achievements and we have a strong ethos of ambition and aspiration which runs through all aspects of college life. The philosophy of the college is based on the understanding that each member is to be valued as an individual. A successful and thriving Sixth Form College, we have a 99% A-Level pass rate, with fully 50% of all grades achieved being A*-B. Our students go on to a wide variety of destinations and careers, including Oxbridge universities, highly sought after apprenticeships and more. Success data published in 2015 placed us in the top 10 Sixth Form Colleges nationally, and part of a very exclusive group with Level 3 success rates above 90%. The college delivers AS and A levels - in a very wide range of subject areas – together with BTECS at levels 2 and 3 and a small range of other courses from GCSE to HND - to around 2000 students who come from all over Lincolnshire, as well as Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. In addition to this, the College has, for many years, been a pioneer in the recruitment of International Students who play a very valuable role in college life.

The college was graded ‘2’ (Good) by OfSTED in 2014, and since then success rates and results have remained excellent and have improved; all are significantly above national sixth form college benchmarks and some of the best in the country. In 2015, our success data placed the college in the top ten Sixth Form Colleges in the country.

The college operates from a single campus and much investment and improvement has been undertaken to the facilities and buildings over recent years.

Building on the work of the current Principal, Mr David Vasse, we are seeking someone with outstanding drive, commitment and enthusiasm to lead our College in the next phase of its development. The ideal candidate will be a senior leader in a Sixth Form College, a General Further Education College with a good understanding of 16-18 education, or a school with a significant Sixth Form. The role is broad enough in scope to offer excellent career satisfaction to an existing Principal or Head seeking a fresh challenge, whilst our existing structures and senior team will ensure that a successful and motivated Deputy Principal or Deputy Head would also be capable of achieving great things in the College.

Opportunities are strong - you will continue our tradition of excellence in education, and you will lead on the development of on-going and future collaborative partnerships to secure accelerated achievement and progress of students across North Lincolnshire and beyond. Clearly, the successful candidate will need to have a strong current knowledge of national and local issues in the sixth form sector. The ability and personality to work co-operatively with our stakeholders at all levels is important to us. Although these are uncertain times for our education sector, Governors and the Corporation are fully committed to the independence, success and future of John Leggott College.

John Leggott College is the Sixth Form College of choice for around 2,000 young people…..come and join in our success.

Closing date for receipt of applications: 11pm, 20th June 2016.
Shortlisting will take place as soon as possible thereafter.
Interviews are likely to take place on 28th and 29th June 2016.
