The British School of Beijing Shunyi (BSB) is at an exciting stage of its development, having grown very significantly during the last decade with a capacity of 1,500 places for students aged 1-18. The school offers the English National Curriculum in the Early Years and Key Stages 1-3, with a broad range of iGCSE examinations being undertaken at Key Stage 4. In our Sixth Form, students follow the International Baccalaureate Diploma. Academic achievement has risen strongly over the past three years or so, and now rivals the very best schools, at home and abroad. The school is housed in a purpose built campus with outstanding facilities in the Beijing suburb of Shunyi, some 20 km from the city centre, which is much favoured by expatriate families. The area is very safe and has excellent facilities for teachers, whether coming alone or with your family.

What we are looking for

We seek a talented, preferably internationally experienced leader in education to build upon the great work achieved to date. The Principal takes responsibility for the leadership, organisation and management of the whole school which benefits from a highly talented and committed staff body and exceptional students with outstanding parental support. The post-holder’s key deliverables are aligned with the annual school quality review, appropriate external accreditation processes and the school’s strategic plan. Other key objectives include: education quality and outcomes, school growth, financial targets, staff development, resource utilisation and Health & Safety.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Understand that leading learning is at the heart of school leadership
  • Relentlessly pursue outstanding academic performance for the many, not the few
  • Understand how to blend the best of international curricula with contemporary educational research and thinking on education
  • Collaborate and build high performing teams, and be able to inspire, motivate and develop sustainable relationships with all members of the school community
  • Continue to create a distinctive positioning for the school in its local and international markets
  • Lead strategic institutional change and improvement together with innovations in teaching and learning
  • Possess a creative and pragmatic mind with the ability and experience of working within or with wider international networks
  • Be effective in building international school cultures and a caring ethos
  • Drive the marketing and admissions process of the school with passion and a focus on quality that grows the school
  • Engage with students, teachers, parents and community leaders in a manner that is open and inclusive and conveys the values of the organisation and school
  • Preferably have experience in the curricula offered by the school (English National Curriculum, IGCSE and IB Diploma)
