Helping tomorrow’s citizens to flourish

University of Birmingham School is a pioneering and distinctive comprehensive school and sixth form that truly represents the diverse community of the city it serves. The school opened two years ago as part of the civic mission of the University of Birmingham, a world class university that was founded over one hundred years ago to advance education in the city of Birmingham, one of the fastest growing and vibrant cities in western Europe.

The school welcomes a diverse range of children from across Birmingham to be part of a state-of-the-art school and ensures that every individual succeeds. Heavily oversubscribed, when full, the school will have the capacity for 1,150 students, providing them all with the opportunity to develop great character and achieve academic success in a thriving, vibrant community – without limits.

The unique partnership with the University of Birmingham enables the school’s pupils, students and staff unrivalled access to their world-class resources, research and people. This partnership makes the school the UK’s first secondary University Training School and provides endless opportunities to collaborate, learn and grow as a school that will forever put education, safety and flourishing first.

The core purpose of the school is to develop the character - the personal qualities or virtues - of the school’s students. The broad and balanced academic curriculum supports this vision and a school-wide enrichment programme and extended school day ensures all students have the opportunity and potential to explore their passions and develop as well-rounded citizens. By balancing character development with academic success, the school aims to create better citizens, better communities, and a better world.

You will have had proven senior leadership expertise at either Headteacher or Principal level within a secondary setting, working with diverse communities of pupils and understanding the opportunities and challenges this presents. As a highly skilled communicator with excellent motivational skills, you will have the strategic ability to engage credibly and successfully grow, lead and further develop close collaboration with the University so that everyone flourishes. A forward thinker, you will bring the drive, inspiration, and commitment to lead the unique vision of the school, where academic success and character development go hand in hand. This is an exciting, yet challenging, time to join The University of Birmingham School as it evolves into a new phase of its development and you will need to understand how to take these challenges and mould them into opportunities for the benefit of our School, and the City it serves, to reach its potential.

Will you be the one to inspire our citizens to flourish?
