Job overview

The Role
We are pleased to offer this unmissable opportunity for an experienced, ambitious, inspirational, passionate and tenacious leader to unleash the potential of Oasis Academy Brightstowe, an inclusive co-educational secondary school in Bristol.

As the leader of an Oasis Academy, you will drive sustainable improvement with the full support of one of the county’s most successful Multi-Academy Trusts, Oasis Community Learning.  Our Principals enjoy both individual autonomy and the benefits that come from being part of a regional and national family of Academies.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A proven track record of effective leadership, strategic planning and clearly evidenced achievements in transforming educational provision as a Principal or senior deputy
  • A proven record of success in working closely with parents and carers, local schools and community and other partners for the benefit of all students
  • A deep-rooted commitment to transforming the community the Academy serves

About the Academy
Oasis Academy Brightstowe is a co-educational Academy, which admits students between the ages of 11 to 16 years, situated in Shirehampton, Bristol. The Academy opened in 2008 in a state-of-the-art building, with exceptional facilities to inspire great learning.

Oasis Academy Brightstowe is part of the Oasis Hub: North Bristol (OHNB), which includes Oasis Academy Bank Leaze and Oasis Academy Long Cross, serving the communities of Shirehampton, Lawrence Weston, Sea Mills and Avonmouth which are amongst the highest areas of deprivation in the UK.

Oasis understands that the factors that create disadvantages for children and young people need to be tackled to improve their life chances. Our response is the creation of Oasis Hubs.  This is an opportunity for you to bring this community together through building partnerships with local businesses and services, such as healthcare, police, charities and with the parents and carers of our young people, you will be a figurehead in this community and make our Hub thrive.

The Academy benefits from the support mechanism of the Trust which provides a bespoke curriculum, behaviour and pedagogical approach, freeing teachers to teach and leaders to lead.  As part of the Oasis family of Academies in the South West, you will enjoy the support and challenge of your peers and the Regional Director, who provide bespoke challenge and support allocated on a needs basis. You can expect high-quality, ongoing professional development, and we share accountability and a determination to enable improvement within our Academies.

What we stand for...

We often use the word ‘ethos’ to describe the character of Oasis Community Learning and our Academies.

Central to the ethos of Oasis Academy Brightstowe is the idea of a rich and balanced educational environment - academically, vocationally, socially, morally, spiritually, physically, emotionally and environmentally.

Our goal
The goal is to raise aspirations, unlock students' potential and work towards achieving excellence through encouraging a 'can do' culture which nurtures confident and competent people. The Academy aims to develop informed and active learners with a strong sense of self-confidence who can explore questions, seek solutions, solve problems and are not afraid to fail initially, because from failure springs learning and success.

Oasis believes that this can be achieved through high-quality facilities, outstanding staff, clear leadership, a positive, affirming environment and a partnership between students, parents and the Academy. Parents/Carers will be positively engaged in supporting each child.

Our ethos
The ethos of the Oasis Academy is rooted in Christian-based core values, which permeates every aspect of its life. These include valuing everyone and protecting individual rights to freedom and choice, working actively against discrimination and social exclusion, and respecting the beliefs and practices of others. The Academy provides a welcoming environment for students of all faiths and no faith and serves the whole community.
