Job overview

Nishkam School Coventry (NSC), will be an innovative state of the art all-through 4-16 school with 1260 (4FE) pupils when full. This new entity will replace the current Seva School whose funding agreement is to be terminated following the school’s failure to improve since placement in special measures in 2016.

NSC will inherit 609 pupils which currently extend from Reception to Year 10. The school is will join Nishkam School Trust, a Multi-Academy Trust of 4 schools of which 3 are outstanding.

This will be a unique and exciting opportunity for the right leader to make a significant contribution to the of development of Nishkam School Coventry (NSC). This will include setting a new culture and ethos of high aspiration, recruiting new staff at all levels as the school grows, and contributing to the multimillion pound development of the secondary school aspect of the site and Sports facilities. It would be a wonderful opportunity to nurture children from their first school contact at age 4 through to KS4 at 16.

The plan would be to go on and develop a sixth form within 5 years. Opportunities like these will interest those with creative minds and high aspirations, seeking to inspire a generation of pupils through a virtues-led approach to faith education. The journey will be one of leading this school to eventual excellence and growing the school, new leadership team, to capacity, which will be immensely rewarding for the right individual. There will be significant support through leadership at a Trust level, as well as the opportunity to work closely together with the partner Nishkam Schools.

Background

As school Principal for NSC, you will work in a pioneering MAT, Nishkam School Trust (NST). NST is one of the first multi-academy free school trusts in the UK. The Trust has opened two free schools in Birmingham (primary in 2011 and a secondary in 2012) both of which are judged Ofsted Outstanding, and a third, a primary free school in Wolverhampton. Nishkam School West London opened in 2013 and now occupies a flagship building, it too was judged Ofsted Outstanding in 2016. Every opportunity to share good practice from our outstanding schools will be actively shared. Working collaboratively together, the aspiration will be to become an outstanding Nishkam school given the appropriate time and support.

NST has developed an inclusive virtues led multi-faith educational approach that nurtures pupils of all faiths and those of no particular faith. The Nishkam ethos is to help grow a selfless mind-set, aspiring to excellence as well as going beyond ourselves to serve others, to create supportive communities and to realise our true potential. This pervades every aspect of the school.

The Role

The role will commence in 2019 (negotiable). You will recruit and build your team to create an outstanding environment for learning to flourish.

You will build excellence through our virtues work and in the academic curriculum, alongside other senior leaders across the Trust. You will also be part of a global community of charitable initiatives.

The Environment

Nishkam School Coventry will be taking over the current site occupied by Seva School. Plans are already in progress for the £13 million expansion which will include a state of the art sports hall and
green space.
