Change Lives – A unique opportunity to develop a brand new secondary Academy

Oasis Community Learning (OCL) are seeking a dedicated, experienced and visionary leader with a clear philosophy of education to create an outstanding centre of educational excellence in our new Oasis Academy in Oldham. This is an exciting time to join the Oasis family, as 79% of our inspected Academies are ‘Good’ or better with steadily improving outcomes at all phases of education.  We have moved a long way in our journey to exceptional education; will you help drive us to success in Oldham?

Growth and development

In September 2018 Oasis will open a brand new Academy with a founding intake of approximately 180 Year 7 and 120 Year 8 pupils. The new school will grow to a 10 form-of-entry (300 per year), inclusive, non-selective, co-educational Academy. Our Academy will start its life in impressive temporary accommodation, with a new site being purpose built to home our young minds. This is an exciting chance to start an Academy and make your mark in this community, leading the school through all phases towards a thriving ‘Outstanding’ place of education.

Our ideal candidate

The appointed candidate will be someone with a strong track record of senior leadership, clarity of purpose and high expectations. You will be fundamentally committed to the Oasis ethos of inclusion, equality, healthy relationships, hope and perseverance. This Principal Designate post requires a confident individual who is ready, and excited, to start making an impact in a new environment.

A blank canvas

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to play an instrumental role in shaping the new Academy. Upon joining OCL in January 2018, you’ll have the opportunity to recruit your own staff team, finalise the curriculum offering and engage with parents and the wider community to ensure the new Academy is a ‘school of choice’ and over-subscribed in its first year.

The role will be both strategic and operational, requiring someone who can build effective relationships, and engage very successfully with a wide range of stakeholders. You will also have to be ready and willing to ‘roll their sleeves up’ and deliver within the defined timescales.

An extended community
We do not expect you to do this alone. You will enjoy the support and challenge of being part of a family of 48 Oasis Academies, working alongside leaders in their field, and gaining access to great learning and training opportunities.

The new Academy will join our growing network of Academies within our northern region and also be part of the Oasis Hub Oldham, together with Oasis Academy Oldham and Oasis Academy Limeside. As Principal you will be a forward-facing community figure within the local Oasis Hub, building relationships with local leaders and influencing the lives of our young people and the extended community.

About Oasis

Born of the Oasis global charity, we are a family of 48 Academies spread throughout four regions of the UK dedicated to delivering exceptional education at the heart of the community.

Oasis Community Learning has a vision to create "Exceptional Education at the Heart of the Community."

Established in 2004 we have now grown into a family of 52 academies that are located in five regions of England, providing primary, secondary and all-through education. We are proud to serve over 30,000 young people, 50% of whom are from disadvantaged backgrounds and 31% speak English as an additional language.

We are proud members of the Oasis Trust group of charities.

Purpose

All our academies are committed to providing a rich educational experience, ensuring that every child and young person has the opportunities that they need and deserve to fulfil their full potential.

We are dedicated to raising the educational bar for each one of our young people, and to closing the attainment gap that exists between our disadvantaged students and their more privileged classmates.

Exceptional Education

We have a record of accomplishment in delivering consistent and sustainable improvement in our academies. Since 2014, the proportion of our inspected schools that Ofsted have rated ‘Good’ or better has risen from 30% to 81%.

Each academy also benefits from being part of a Regional Improvement Network and our academies work closely with their regional colleagues to share best practice and drive improvement.

At the Heart of the Community

We operate as a family of academies in all our regions. We believe in community and aspire to build a community hub within which each academy or family of academies.

Our Hub teams (part of one of our sister charities, Oasis Community Partnerships) facilitate access to a wide range of services such as adult learning schemes, healthy living advice and activities, sports facilities, out-of-hours youth activities, debt-advice, and foodbanks amongst many others.

Ethos

Our ethos is integral to our educational provision and everything that we do – it is an expression of our character and a statement of who we are.

It consists of five key commitments:

  • A passion to include everyone
  • A desire to treat everyone equally, respecting differences
  • A commitment to healthy and open relationships
  • A deep sense of hope that things can change and be transformed
  • A sense of perseverance to keep going for the long haul

The Oasis Story

Oasis Community Learning was born out of the group of Oasis Trust charities which was  established in 1985 by Rev Steve Chalke MBE.

Steve’s vision was to create communities where everyone is included, contributing and reaching their God-given potential. His dream was to open a school that was inclusive and provided opportunity for everybody, a hospital for those unable to access good healthcare and a hostel for the homeless.

It was out of this vision that Oasis Community Learning was born, and we have now grown into a significant education provider in just over a decade.

We are proud to be an integral part of the Oasis Trust, which continues to pioneer education, housing, health care, anti-trafficking, and many other initiatives to combat social-injustice across the world.

Oasis Community Learning is a Company Limited by Guarantee registered in England & Wales No 5398529. Registered Charity No 1109288 - Part of Oasis UK
