Location: Mix of London (Shepherd’s Bush) and home working; balance may change from time to time. The role also involves travel between schools across the UK

Contract: Permanent

About the role:

The Principal Development Lead (English Mastery) will support the successful implementation of the English Mastery programme across the English Mastery community. You will have your own portfolio of partner secondary schools with whom you will offer a mixture of in-person and virtual support. Having established strong relationships with your schools, you will deliver ongoing training and coaching to teachers and leaders to ensure the programme meets the needs of staff and pupils. 

You will be a crucial member of the team, working closely with the Head of School Development and other Principal Development Leads and you will promote a programme that’s transforming English education in UK, celebrating success, and sharing good practice.  

Key Responsibilities and Duties: 

Senior management: You will contribute to the shape of delivery and new ways of working across the programmes and lead on identified pan-programme delivery projects

Key account management: Establish a strong relationship with the person responsible for English Mastery in key accounts (usually Multi Academy Trusts), seeking to understand their priorities and build confidence and work closely with colleagues managing other relationships within the same key account, as part of a key account team, to build a stronger partnership and to ensure a joined up and high quality experience for our strategic partners

Delivery partners: Set and implement a communications plan for external Development Leads on the programme, ensuring they feel a valued part of our extended family and motivated and briefed to represent us in a positive light. You will also manage the Associate Development Lead pool, working to understand need and capacity in order to identify upcoming gaps

Broader programme representation: Be the first port of call for the partnerships team to support partnerships initiatives including leading webinars or information sessions 

School Development Support: Engage with ongoing PD and sector thinking and maintain a strong understanding of the English Mastery programme in order to offer high quality training, PD and support in the programme. You will also provide one-to-one school development support across a portfolio of partner schools, ensuring they are supported to implement our programmes successfully to gain the intended immediate and longer-term impact

Relationship with wider organisation: Contribute to the development of the overall programme strategy and structure through cross-functional working and collaboration, especially by feeding back relevant insights gathered from schools to the design and partnerships teams

General: Identify and carry out any other duties which fall within the scope, spirit and purpose of the post as requested.


Key Requirements:

Experience, knowledge and skills

• Understanding of the education landscape and issues affecting education 

• 5+ years’ teaching experience across at least two key stages

• A proven record in delivering outstanding achievement in English, particularly for pupils with low prior attainment in challenging urban schools

• Up-to-date knowledge and use of the current curriculum and assessment requirements and best practice in implementation and delivery of professional development 

• Record of successfully leading change in a school context

• Track record of providing professional development to teachers, including coaching, mentoring and training

• Experience of managing a budget and managing resourcing

• Regular and on-going engagement with training and personal development

• A strong and proactive communicator with a collaborative working style

Qualifications

• Educated to degree level

• Qualified to teach in the UK and qualified to degree level

• Subject specific qualification/further study desirable

• Right to work in the UK
