Job overview

Principal, Astrea Academy Woodfields

Location: Doncaster

Do you have the vision, passion and rigour to lead Astrea Academy Woodfields through its rapid improvement journey, to create an exceptional school?

Astrea Academy Trust is looking for a tenacious and ambitious senior leader to become the new Principal at Astrea Academy Woodfields. The academy is at a pivotal stage of its rapid improvement journey, and this is a truly fantastic opportunity to lead a school as it takes important steps towards excellence.

Astrea Academy Woodfields is a vibrant 11-18 academy in Doncaster. Our cohesive vocational sixth form curriculum offers students flexibility and choice. Leading Astrea Academy Woodfields into the future will be a career-defining move. We need a confident, dynamic leader who can help the school achieve its vision of becoming a centre of excellence and who has the focus to drive improvement at pace. It’s crucial that our new Principal has the clarity of vision and personal presence needed to empower others to give their absolute best and to build high performing teams at all levels.

The academy and Trust are committed to a knowledge-rich curriculum and a traditional approach to teaching, behaviour, and culture, where pupils are supported and challenged to achieve their full potential.

We believe in the creation of a scholarly culture that is warm and strict, disciplined, and joyful, where there is ‘purpose not power’, ensuring impeccable behaviour, where teachers can focus on teaching and pupils can focus on learning. As Principal you will have the opportunity to lead the school on its continued journey of improvement, ensuring pupils have the inspirational learning environment and the very best opportunities that they deserve.

We are open minded about where you might be working currently. What is important to us is you have a proven track record of improving outcomes, an unwavering belief that extraordinary academic success is possible and a demonstrable ability to build a high performing and united team. This is a demanding role, but a hugely rewarding one and you will be supported by the Regional Director (Secondary) every step of the way. You will also have access to the support and resources of Astrea Academy Trust. This includes the expertise of the Central Leadership Team, as well as a highly effective team of national subject leads and Central Support for Finance, HR, Estates and other functions.

If you are aligned to our mission and values, have a strong track record of school leadership and a drive to do more, we would love to hear from you.

Visits are warmly encouraged. To arrange this and for an informal (and confidential conversation) call our recruitment partners Propelo, on 01273 222 877.

Join Astrea Academy Woodfields and join an incredible team who work hard constantly to make a difference on the life chances of the students that enter the gates, from the communities of Balby and Hexthorpe in Doncaster.

Astrea Academy Woodfields is an 11-18 Multi Academy Trust school situated in Balby, Doncaster, which has around 800 students. The academy is easily accessible via the A1(M).

Our vision for education is simple and one that allows teachers to teach. We believe in a curriculum that is knowledge-rich, ‘the best that is thought and said’, that is supported by a traditional approach to teaching, behaviour and culture. We are values-driven and our vision is to provide an inclusive, aspirational and academic education for all our students, so that all of them will learn, thrive and lead successful lives.

If you are interested in explicit instruction alongside the theories of Doug Lemov, Rosenshine and cognitive science, you will enjoy the warm/strict, disciplined/joyful culture at Woodfields, where there is impeccable behaviour, disruption free classrooms, teachers who can teach and students who can focus on learning.

We are unapologetically ambitious for every child, no matter what their background, prior attainment or needs. We are not going to reduce expectations because of a child’s background or home life, or because they are new to English or have a special education need. In fact, the opposite is true. It is our job to redouble our efforts to help children overcome these barriers so that they can flourish.

We value our staff highly and treat workload very seriously. Our systems are high leverage, ensuring you can really focus on your core purpose – teaching, in a sustainable way, unhindered by bureaucracy or poor behaviour.

We hope to hear from you soon.
