Principal of Bovington Academy

Salary negotiable (based on experience) + performance bonus

Are you ready for an exciting new challenge? We are looking for a successful educator with the appropriate level of experience to take on the role of Principal of Bovington Academy in order to take this unique academy to the next level of development.

Bovington Academy joined the Aspirations Academies Trust on 1 July 2019, having been  inspected by Ofsted as a Local Authority school in October 2018 and rated as inadequate. Bovington is a unique school sitting amongst glorious Dorset countryside and serving both the local rural population and the local army base. The academy has enormous potential and we are developing very strong links with the army to develop a highly supportive education for the children in army families.

Aspirations Academies Trust is now looking for a Principal to creatively develop the academy, to embed and develop the Aspirations ‘No limits curriculum’, to grow the school into a 2 form entry school, and to provide a high quality education that prepares pupils for a successful life in the 21st century.

Aspirations operate a very supportive structure allowing Principals to get on with the role of leading their school and to focus on developing a high quality education for their pupils.

If you would like to discuss the Trust’s vision for the Bovington Principal role, please contact Steve Kenning, Managing Director of Aspirations: stevekenning@aspirationsacademies.org or telephone: 07753496548

Application forms and further details are available from Caroline Barringer, The Aspirations Academies Trust, email: carolinebarringer@aspirationsacademies.org

Bovington Academy officially opened on 1st July 2019 as part of the Aspirations Academies Trust and this is a very exciting time for us on our journey to greatness. We have made some very exciting changes to the academy to enhance the educational experiences of our young learners. There are 13 classes across an age range of 4-11 and we currently have approximately 280 children on roll.

We are proud to serve a unique catchment area, including Bovington and the local garrison between Allenby and Stanley Barracks. Approximately 60% of our children have a parent or carer that is in the services and we have worked hard to develop our relationship with the community for the benefit of our children. We pride ourselves on providing a nurturing environment, in which children from all backgrounds feel included and able to take part in enriching learning experiences, where parents and carers feel confident about sending their children.

Bovington Academy is a very caring and happy place to be. We are keen to develop strong partnerships with parents and carers and recognise the importance of their involvement in their child’s education. During this academic year, we will be providing numerous opportunities for parents and carers to engage in life of the academy and to find out more about their child’s progress, the work in the classrooms and how to support their child’s learning.

At Bovington Academy, we are very lucky to have an incredible learning environment including large and extensive school grounds. In addition, we are extremely fortunate to have the world-renowned Bovington Tank Museum within walking distance. We make full use of this provision and have forged strong relationships with the museum, which has helped to enhance our curriculum experiences.

Our staff are passionate about providing the very best education and we offer a varied and engaging curriculum that we believe develops our children, providing them with future skills, knowledge and experiences so they are ready for the next exciting chapter in their lives and education when they leave Bovington Academy.

As an academy, we have high standards both academically and in our expectations for behaviour. We expect our children to work hard, look smart and respect each other. Furthermore, we have high aspirations for the children and recognise children as unique individuals with specific talents and needs.

At the heart of our approach is the development of self-worth, belonging and engagement for all children. Children come to us with different starting points and experiences and it is important to acknowledge this. We work hard to ensure a sense of belonging is established from a child’s first day. Our approach is a focus on the ‘whole’ child, their emotional literacy and providing them with the best opportunity to reach their full potential using a ‘growth mindset’.

We strongly believe that with Big Dreams and Hard Work, Anything is Possible. We inspire our children to dream about the future while being inspired in the present to reach those dreams.
