Job overview

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced school leader to become Principal of a leading British school that is recently established in Cairo. The new Principal will build Repton Cairo beyond its first two years of operation and realise its aspiration to become one of the leading schools in Egypt and the region.

Repton School was founded in 1557 in the heart of England and today is a world-class, co-educational day and boarding school. It is a modern, flourishing community with a clear sense of purpose and momentum, providing an exceptional broad-based education and impressive pastoral support. In 2007, Repton was one of the first UK independent schools to establish an overseas school. The Repton Family of Schools now comprises seven international schools and two UK prep schools and a further phase of international development is under way, coinciding with a strengthening of the group structure to ensure that Repton’s ethos, values and aims are at the core of all its schools.

Repton Cairo has been established as a partnership between Repton in the UK and Merge Plus Education, a school management company with a long and distinguished history of running schools in Egypt. It is a strong partnership, founded on the shared ambition of Repton Cairo becoming the best-regarded British international school in Cairo. The school is in Mivida, at the heart of a thriving new development of 5,000 properties and well-positioned to serve other residential areas of New Cairo. It is an English national curriculum school with a co-curricular programme designed to deliver an outstanding holistic education in the best Repton traditions. The school started with a small Early Years and Junior School intake, and the new Principal will strengthen these parts of the school, develop the Senior School and guide the school towards its capacity of 1,500 students.

This headship will require an experienced school leader, preferably with some strong primary/junior experience, and with resilience and adaptability, excellent experience of the British curriculum, and a commitment to understanding how to make this an authentically Repton school in the distinctive context of Cairo. The Principal will work closely with both Merge Plus Education and the Repton Family of Schools, understanding the expectations of each. They will be able to establish and maintain the highest standards of teaching and learning and the systems and processes required in any leading school; they will recruit outstanding colleagues as the school grows and take a leading role in enabling the school to meet its enrolment targets.

The position is available from August 2023 or potentially earlier for any candidates who may be available.
