The Ruskin Mill Trust Group operates five colleges and associated residential provision in Birmingham, Horsley (Gloucestershire), Pembrokeshire, Sheffield, and Stourbridge and an associated site in Darlington, as well as an independent specialist school in Sheffield.  We provide innovative and experiential education for children, young people and adults with special learning needs, developed out of the inspiration of Rudolf Steiner, William Morris and John Ruskin.

College Principal – Ruskin Mill College
Up to £66,300 per annum.

We are looking to recruit a new College Principal for Ruskin Mill College, based in Horsley, Gloucestershire.

As the Senior Leader at the College you will be responsible for articulating and manifesting the vision and method of Ruskin Mill Trust and the Practical Skills Therapeutic Education in order to support the re-imagination of the student potential and shape their own future with regard to the operation and development of the College.

To be able to undertake this role you must have a degree level education, ideally also holding a Masters level qualification.  You must have a full teaching qualification or equivalent experience; Have experience of leading and managing change to deliver improved performance; Be able to give evidence of innovative and successful performance management, ideally through staff development; Be able to demonstrate experience of having led, or significantly contributed to the success of an organisation through its leadership, ethos, teaching and results; Evidence of successful business development within the education sector, which may include looking at alternative funding sources or via increasing student recruitment; Be able to evidence experience of successful implementation of quality assurance processes to address concerns or identified areas of improvement and ideally have experience of engaging and recruiting privately funded students.

In addition you must have an up to date knowledge of the legislative frameworks which impact on this 24 hour provision; Experience of working within a complex organisation; Knowledge of Rudolf Steiner Holistic Education with particular reference to the works and insights of John Ruskin and William Morris; Be adaptable and show initiative with high levels of personal, emotional and social intelligence.

 Ruskin Mill College is a national charity, operating a range of educational, vocational and residential services for young people with learning and behavioural difficulties and disabilities. Ruskin Mill College is part of Ruskin Mill Trust Limited. The college is situated on a large site in Horsley, Gloucestershire and provides a curriculum based on craft activities. This is a rural location, and the village’s population is 820. The college works with students aged 16-25, and has operated since 1987. The school accommodates both residential and day students, and as of the most recent inspection there were a total of 91 students on the school roll.
