About The King Alfred School, an Academy

The King Alfred School Academy (TKASA) is a mixed, non-denominational community secondary school and sixth form for pupils aged 11-18. It is located in Highbridge. Somerset, and has about 1,350 pupils. The school moved to its present site in 1957, where it was officially opened in 1958. Predecessor institutions were known as The King Alfred County Secondary School, and Burnham County Secondary School, which occupied a number of sites in Burnham-on-Sea.

Over the past six years since academisation the Academy has seen rapid improvement, with student numbers increasing year on year to now being oversubscribed, a high performing Sixth Form Centre which has seen numbers triple since 2017, an ambitious and knowledge rich curriculum and very strong behaviour systems in school that have created exceptional conduct from students, recognised by the Local Authority as being a beacon of success. In 2023 the Academy was acknowledged by the Regional Director for its glowing Ofsted report having moved from Inadequate to Good in such a short period (see report below). The school motto is Belong, Believe, Be Proud and this creates an Academy that is inclusive, diverse and a great place to work. It is a real Community school.
