Job overview

Keeping the UK at the forefront of Engineering

Heathrow Aviation Engineering UTC offers an exciting and unique education to students in North West London. The UTC specialises in engineering and prepares its students for future success in the exciting worldwide aviation industry. Having opened in September 2014, the UTC is now well established in a new £8M building.

The first set of exam results from Heathrow Aviation Engineering UTC saw the school achieve the highest Progress 8 for UTCs nationally and above the Local Authority average.  The UTC was recently listed by The Times as one of the top 5 best performing UTCs in the UK.

This is an excellent opportunity for a new Principal to build on the promising start and help shape a radically new form of secondary education for highly motivated young people. You'll be working with blue chip sponsors including British Airways, Heathrow Airport Limited, Royal Aeronautical Society and Virgin Atlantic together with Brunel University London to create a professional learning environment preparing students for workplace employment or higher education.

You'll be dedicated to the delivery of education and training and have a proven track record of engagement with young people leading to excellent personal outcomes. You will have the management capability to motivate a substantial staff, operate within budgetary parameters and deliver a diverse range of outcomes effectively and on time. An interest in and enthusiasm for engineering is essential. As part of the growing UTC movement our objective is to 'inspire and train the next generation of engineers, technicians, craftsmen and industrial innovators'.

The UTC intends to join a MAT within the next year to gain the advantages of being part of a family of schools.

Applications are welcome from colleagues of all levels of experience in whole school management.

NOR: 600 at full capacity (300 KS4 and 300 KS5) Age range: 14 - 19

UTC Heathrow is a mixed University Technical College located in Northwood in the London Borough of Hillingdon. It offers its 14-19 year-old students a range of full-time technically oriented courses with an emphasis on aviation engineering, maths and science. It currently has just under 200 students enrolled but this is expected to expand to its maximum capacity of 400.

UTC Heathrow {originally known as Heathrow Aviation Engineering UTC} in 2014 - in response to growing demand for high-calibre professional engineers and technicians, aided by partnerships with Brunel University London, and major local employers British Airways plc and Heathrow Airport.

Students regularly get the chance to work on practical projects with these partners as part of their study, as well as more traditional classroom-based and workshop learning.
