King William’s College and The Buchan School

Appointment of Principal

The Governing Body of King William’s College and The Buchan School invite applications for the role of Principal from September 2023, following seven years of exceptional leadership under Joss Buchanan.

King William’s College (KWC) is a leading HMC independent school near Castletown in the Isle of Man. As the only independent school in the island, KWC holds a unique place within the local marketplace and is highly regarded for its distinctive offer which pairs history and tradition with a modern approach and international mindset. The School cultivates a warm sense of community through which its students flourish under academic rigour and an individualised approach.

The School is in a strong position, with approximately 600 boys and girls across the 2 to 18 age range including a healthy number of boarders, most of whom are international students. It is the highest achieving school in the Isle of Man with outcomes that out-perform many other independent schools across the UK. Of particular note is KWC’s successes through the IBDP, which it currently offers as its single Sixth Form pathway and, since its inception at the School in 2002, has evolved to one of the most established programmes in the UK.

The School welcomes applications from both serving Heads and experienced Deputy Heads with the drive and ambition to ensure its continued success and the vision and skills to identify and deliver change in the years ahead. The successful candidate will be an innovative and accomplished educationalist with an ethos that aligns with the School’s aims as well as the IB philosophy. They will demonstrate strategic awareness and business acumen combined with the ability to motivate and inspire pupils and staff alike, ensuring the School continues to prepare young people for an ever changing world.
