Mzuzu International Academy is a non-profit co-educational day and boarding school situated on the outskirts of Mzuzu, the third largest city in Malawi. The school is set within a spacious and developing campus overlooking the beautiful Kaningina hills and offers both primary and secondary education to a largely Malawian student body. The curriculum for Early Years, Key Stages 1, 2 and 3 follows the English National Curriculum with some adaptations to the local context, whilst Key Stage 4 students work towards their IGCSE examinations. The student body is relatively small with a total of 358 students (191 in Primary and 167 in Secondary). Boarding is available only for secondary students and there are currently a total of 95 boarding students. Mzuzu International Academy is the leading international school in Northern Malawi but aims to become one of the top international schools in the country.

The Board of Trustees is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and dynamic Principal to lead our growing international primary and secondary school. The position may be suitable for any candidate who is an experienced Vice Principal, Head of Secondary or Head of Primary in a large school who is ready to step into the role of Principal. If you have a strong desire to improve the life chances of our students and feel excited to lead and direct a small team of dedicated staff to help fulfil the ambition of the school to become a centre of educational excellence in Malawi, we would love to hear from you.

The successful candidate will be an outstanding leader and teacher who will have:

• The capacity to establish and oversee systems, processes and policies that enable the school to operate effectively and efficiently

• A proven track record in leading and managing staff including building a successful team, sharing and delegating effectively as well as implementing and managing change at a senior level in an educational organisation

• Evidence of successful experience in leading professional development as well as the coaching and mentoring of staff

• Successful experience of school self-evaluation and accountability and the school improvement process

• Successful experience of effective strategic financial and resource management to achieve educational priorities and to ensure efficiencies and value for money

• Experience of working with and presenting to a variety of stakeholders including governors

• The capacity to create and maintain stability within an ever-changing educational environment

• Resilience, energy, and passion and treat challenges as opportunities

• A willingness to adapt to the challenges of working in Malawi

Applicants should hold a relevant degree and professional teaching qualification (PGCE with QTS; B. ED or equivalent) and have experience of the National Curriculum for England whether that is in the UK or in an international setting. Applicants must also have an Enhanced Disclosure/DBS/ACRO Police Check or equivalent. To be considered for this position you will need to meet our qualifications and experience requirements.
