PRINCIPAL

Salary: L14 – L20 (Group 2)

Start Date: January 2024

We are seeking to recruit an exceptional individual to become Principal of Pilgrim Academy in September 2023. The position has become available as the current Executive Principal will be expanding his responsibilities for all primary academies within the Trust on a full-time basis.

With a well-established reputation for excellence within the local community and beyond, Pilgrim Academy’s success is underpinned by dedicated staff, outstanding facilities and a philosophy of continual improvement. This position provides a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious and energetic leader to work as part of a supportive Trust in order to shape the direction of travel for the Academy and build upon its impressive achievements.

Pilgrim Academy joined the Trust in April 2017 and was judged to be ‘Good’ in all categories by OFSTED in January 2020, a significant improvement on previous inspections, prior to the school joining the Trust. Since that point, we have made significant developments across all areas as we drive towards providing an outstanding education for our children. We pride ourselves on providing a deep, broad and ambitious curriculum, supported by a dedicated focus on enrichment and personal development. Community is very important to us and our families play a crucial role in our continual development.

Pilgrim Academy has 295 children on roll and contextual information includes 35% Pupil Premium; 11% EAL; 14% SEND and 6 pupils with an EHCP. We also have a high number of vulnerable children who receive support from external agencies. The new Principal will have a significant impact upon the lives and opportunities experienced by the young people of North East Lincolnshire.

The successful candidate will have experience of successful school leadership at a senior level, and will likely be a serving headteacher or highly accomplished senior leader. This person will be a dynamic and inspirational leader, possessing the intellect, experience and vision to drive further improvement and innovation at this already successful academy. Importantly, we are looking for the right candidate to maintain and further develop a joint ethos of support, ambition, aspiration and inspiration for both our staff and children. All of our primary academies work closely together to help and support each other.

About Lincolnshire Gateway Academies Trust

Lincolnshire Gateway Academies Trust is a unique Multi Academy Trust led by experienced educationalists responsible for one of the largest and most successful schools in the country.  Lincolnshire Gateway Academies Trust aims to offer a world-class, 21st century education to the young people in all its Academies, providing life-long learning opportunities and creating centres of excellence, which model the successful practices at Waltham Toll Bar Academy, bringing confidence and pride to the local community.

It is a learning community, run by a team who have proved their worth by maintaining their own outstanding outcomes for the 2,200 students at Waltham Toll Bar Academy, while mentoring six further Academies, Primary and Secondary, and taking two of these from 'Special Measures' and 'Requires Improvement' to 'Good' in a short space of time.

Such is their success, that Waltham Toll Bar Academy has not only been rated 'Outstanding' on three consecutive occasions by Ofsted over a period of nine years, but it is also designated as one of the UK's high-performing schools.

In 2010, Waltham Toll Bar Academy sponsored Cleethorpes Academy, confirming its elite status as a high-performing school ready and willing to share its success with others.  The former Lindsey Community Arts College was in 'Special Measures' when it reopened as Cleethorpes Academy. As a fresh start as an Academy, it attracted national interest for its unrivalled transformation. It was designated 'Good' by Ofsted in 2015.

It was this success that led Governors at Waltham Toll Bar, with the full support of the Department for Education, to form its own Multi Academy Trust. The Trust was constituted in May 2012.

In 2013, Reynolds Primary Academy became a member of Lincolnshire Gateway Academies Trust and, with an injection of outstanding teaching staff from Waltham Toll Bar Academy and investment in resources, the Academy was designated 'Good' By Ofsted in 2015.

In November 2015, the former Birkbeck College, which was also in 'Special Measures,' was granted Academy status, joining Lincolnshire Gateway Academies Trust and reopening as Somercotes Academy in November 2015. The Academy has seen a 57% increase in student numbers and has benefitted from outstanding teachers recruited from within Lincolnshire Gateway Academies Trust, whose proven track record has made a significant difference to teaching and learning. The Trust has also invested more than £500,000 in new facilities and resources to provide an outstanding learning environment for the students.

In September 2016, Theddlethorpe Community Primary School became part of the Lincolnshire Gateway Academies Trust. Renamed as Theddlethorpe Academy it has benefitted significantly from the expertise offered to all Academies within the Trust. Pilgrim Academy, formerly Allerton in Immingham became the third Primary Academy to join the Trust in April 2017. Both Academies have benefitted from the injection of outstanding practices utilised within the Trust and have seen increased student numbers as a result. As well as improvements to teaching and learning both Academies have seen a significant investment in facilities which has transformed both sites.

The most recent addition to the Trust has been Louth Academy which was formed in September 2017. The Trust has been able to provide staff in senior leadership and teaching positions to ensure our ethos is implemented effectively. Huge investment has been provided to refurbish facilities, including development of every classroom on both sites.
