Job overview

Are you looking for an exciting new opportunity where you can transform the lives of not just students but the wider community? We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, inspiring and highly motivated leader to join the Oasis family leading our secondary Academy in Oldham. Join our family as an inspirational leader and community figure in what is an exciting time for Oasis Community Learning (OCL); our sustained improvement rate has risen from 30% ‘Good’ or better in Ofsted judgements to 81% since 2014. We need you to be the driving force on Oasis Academy Oldham’s journey to exceptional education.

See the potential, make the difference: Join OCL today!

Oasis Academy Oldham is an all-inclusive 11-16 Academy in Hollinwood, Oldham. We have a diverse intake and want every student to fulfil their potential. With a £30m new build and a motivated team, we are excited about the next stage of our development.

Our journey so far

The Academy is the 20th most improved secondary in England with results of students achieving the basics measure having risen from 25% to 47% in just two years. After been judged as ‘Requires Improvement’ by Ofsted in May 2016, and with below floor standard results in the years prior, this is a significant move forward. The journey does not stop here. We require a dedicated and ambitious leader to drive us forward on our continued path to ‘Good’ and ‘Outstanding’.

Our Ideal Candidate

We are looking for an inspirational leader and role-model who will drive, develop, support and motivate our staff. The successful candidate will be a dedicated and proven effective leader, who will continue to rapidly raise standards and further enhance the curriculum, providing valuable opportunities for our students. You will have a proven and uncompromising approach to school improvement and raising attainment, and you will value the importance of student voice and developing our young people as independent learners and citizens of their community.

Outward Looking

In order to ensure that our students receive the education they deserve and that our staff are fully developed and supported, it is important the academy and its leader are outward looking, fostering relationships with industry experts and local alliances. We already benefit from an array of successful partnerships, including working with the Institute for Teaching, national teaching schools to develop excellent practice and local universities to run a scholars programme for our pupils.

Effective Support

To develop you as a leader, you will enjoy the support and challenge of a Regional Director along with the wider OCL National Team. By being part of a family of 49 Oasis Academies, you will work alongside expert leaders in their field and benefit from a strong support network and partnership within the Northern region. You will have many opportunities to share best practice and drive continual improvement, including an annual Regional conference, Regional Improvement Networks and access to a growing CPD programme nationally.

About Oasis Academy Oldham

Oasis Academy Oldham is a dynamic school, focused on delivering outstanding outcomes for our community.

Our students get experiences that are the envy of many other schools and our results, while there is still a long way to go, are on a positive trajectory. Our wider community is diverse and our students are respectful and confident learners who deserve the very best. Our £30 million state-of-the art facilities are a reflection of this.

We also offer an extensive extra-curricular programme where our students can try their hands at everything from floristry to archery. Our school drama performances stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the very best. Students excel on the sports field and I am continually impressed by the active role that our young people take in shaping and enhancing our wider community.

Oasis Academy Oldham is a cheerful, friendly place in which everyone can feel at home and give their best. We insist on the highest standards of good behaviour, mutual respect and concern and we expect all students to take responsibility for themselves and for others.

Since my appointment I have been committed to recruiting, nurturing and recognising talented educationalists to help us build on the progress that is being made. We have a culture that actively wants to embrace new ideas and best practice that will support and engage our students. We want to challenge the norm and set our expectations high.

We regularly plan opportunities to develop the well being of our staff and ensure our communications strategy means that every member of staff has a voice, feels valued and able to contribute to our vision. Free staff gym membership and regular staff wellbeing CPD sessions are part of this commitment.

By joining Oasis Academy Oldham you will also be joining the wider Oasis Community Learning network, an organisation committed to the provision of high performing schools and healthy communities in a nurturing and inclusive system.  This means that the career progression opportunities for talented educationalists are enviable and the possibilities to develop your career are very clear.

That sense of community goes beyond the school gate; through our Community Hub we ensure that parents, carers and local families are also able to benefit from all that we offer.  We have created a community kitchen and run a financial inclusion project.

That is why I am so proud to be the Principal of this Academy. We are making huge strides as a school – and it really is a privilege to work with young people of which are community can be proud.

Yours sincerely,

Marie Dillon

Principal
