Job overview

Irlam and Cadishead College is an ambitious and aspirational 11-16 school in Salford with 665 on roll. The College moved into a state of the art new building in 2012 which provides a bright and motivational learning environment for students who are articulate and willing to learn. The school will soon join Salford Academy Trust (SAT) and already has a close and effective relationship with them. The Trust and its recently appointed CEO have exciting plans and a clear commitment to do whatever is necessary to ensure that all children and young people at their schools are safe, happy and successful and it will be the Principal’s responsibility to lead the school towards that.

Irlam and Cadishead College has made significant improvements since being placed in Special Measures in 2015. There is still much work to be done but leadership has improved at all levels and there is a commitment from all staff to improving standards and ensuring that consistently high quality teaching and learning drives student progress. The new Principal will harness this motivation and the College’s significant potential and provide the strategic vision and dynamic leadership that will lead it to a confident and successful future.

This is a pivotal time to join SAT as there is a sense of a new beginning. As the Principal you will contribute to the design of a Trust that will be led by the schools. You will join a culture of ‘shared autonomy’ where you and your staff will be at the heart of how SAT develop as a Trust. As the Principal, you will play a lead role in this development. If you are looking for an opportunity to challenge yourself in a new environment this is a unique opportunity to shape, influence and most of all, impact the lives of the young people and community that the College serves.

You must be an experienced senior leader in a secondary setting, with a successful track record of sustained improvement. Applicants must be highly motivated, driven, and have an in-depth knowledge of excellence in education. You should have the creativity and vision to inspire and lead change along with the focus and resilience to ensure successful outcomes are achieved. You will need a positive ‘can-do’ attitude that inspires and engages students, parents/carers and staff alike. You must display compassion, be familiar with holding staff to account and also being accountable for outcomes. Fundamental to your educational philosophy is a conviction that every decision you make should be focused on improving the learning and developing the potential of each student in your care.
