Job overview

Bishops Diocesan College was founded in 1849 and is a leading Anglican Independent School for boys, providing instruction from Grade N to Grade 12 (ages 5 – 18). Situated on magnificent grounds in Rondebosch, Cape Town, the school's character arises from its Christian foundation, its history, its position in southern Africa and the values which it strives to embody and to impart to its pupils. Bishops seek a new Principal to succeed Mr Guy Pearson in early 2020 following his exceptional leadership and service.

During the almost one hundred and seventy years of its existence, Bishops’ has prepared pupils to flourish and the school has a proud tradition of success in examinations; perhaps more importantly, boys find themselves able to cope when they go on to further study. Co-curricular activities include a full programme of sporting activities, a vigorous and exciting cultural programme and an extensive network of pastoral and support structures. The school values excellence as an aspiration in everything that they do.

The Principal is the chief executive officer of the school, responsible to the Council. He/she has specific duties and responsibilities, which include firstly oversight of the management of each of the units within the school, and then various other areas which stretch across all three schools, such as Communication, Marketing, Development, Fundraising, and liaison with the Old Diocesan Union and with old boys.

The School Council seeks a visionary, courageous and inspirational leader who will be mindful and supportive of the School’s traditions, whilst being open to advancement through innovation. He/she will have a proven track record of outstanding success in academic leadership and a commitment to the pursuit of academic excellence and achieving the highest possible academic standards. This person’s educational philosophy will be aligned to the ethos and vision of Bishops and he/she will lead an experienced and committed executive team. The successful candidate will be required to reside on campus in a school house and be a practicing Christian.
