The School

The International School of Koje (ISK) is a coeducational international school for children from 3 years old to Year 9 (UK) or Grade 8 (US). Located in the world’s largest shipbuilding city, ISK was first established in 1970s to support expat children’s education then has grown into an independent school with 410 students from over 40 countries as of 2016-2017.

We follow the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) and International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC).

Accreditation

We are an international school accredited by the Ministry of Education of Korea.  We also acquired an IPC accreditation and are working toward to achieve IMYC accreditation during 2016-2017. 

Location / Facility

Geoje (formerly spelled as “Koje”) is an international hub for shipbuilding and marine engineering industry where the world’s second and third largest shipbuilding companies are headquartered. Among 250,000 residents, approximately 15,000 are international foreign residents of which majority are highly educated professionals from Norway, U.K. France, Netherlands, Australia, India, and U.S.A. to name a few.  An international airport is an hour away with direct flights to major destinations to Asia, North America, and Europe.

School is located in the town of Okpo, where expat communities are concentrated. In May 2014, ISK moved to a new purpose-built school facility with 27 classrooms, a gymnasium, a large library, a science lab, music and art rooms, dedicated play areas for older and younger children, outdoor soccer pitch, basketball court, running track, rooftop garden and a cafeteria.   Further expansion plans of a separate art center and an early years campus are currently under development by the Board.

Student Body

Most of ISK students are expats’ family who come from all over the world for Geoje city’s shipbuilding and marine engineering industry. 40% are Europeans, 30% are Middle & South East Asians, and 20% are Australians.
Infant School (Foundation to Year 2) : 166 students
Junior School (Year 3 to Year 6) : 190 students
Middles School (Year7 to Year 9) : 60 students

Staff

We have about 60 teachers and academic assistants and many support personnel.  Teachers are from 10 different countries: roughly a third from UK and another third from North America.

Position Summary

ISK is seeking a highly committed and experienced school principal who will lead the next stage of school development to achieve school mission and academic excellence. Principal, who reports to Head of School, is responsible for providing the leadership and management to ensure the successful school operation.

He/she is responsible for:

  • Successfully delivering school vision
  • Leading and managing educational programs of three schools – infant, junior, and middle
  • Recruiting, developing, and supervising academic staff
  • Maintaining school accreditation status and achieving new accreditations
  • Establishing and administering the academic budget under the supervision of Head of School
  • Advising Head of School to develop and execute a strategy.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have previous successful leadership experience in an international school setting
  • Exceptional interpersonal and leadership capability
  • Sensitivity to diverse cultures

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s or Advanced degree in education or similar; or leadership
  • Knowledge of and experience with the IPC and IMYC program
  • Familiar and experienced with accreditation procedures

Terms and Condition:

The Initial contract will be for a period of two years. The contract is renewable subject to the mutual agreement. Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. Benefits include housing and car, health insurance, summer flights to home of record, and tuition at ISK for school age children. 

Process

The deadline for application is October 21st, 2016.  The review of files will begin as soon as applications are received.  Finalists will be invited to ISK for on-site interviews during the first two weeks of November with an intention of making a final selection shortly thereafter but no later than December.
