Job overview

Us

Already one of the country’s top performing Trusts, the City of London Academies Trust is driven by the ambition to be the best. We believe exceptional leaders create exceptional schools; they transform lives and shape the future of every student.

The City of London Academy Southwark was the first academy opened by the City of London Corporation in 2003. As the largest academy within the Trust, it sets high expectations for its students and works collaboratively to ensure students receive the best opportunities and thrive within a supportive and creative environment.

You

Dynamic and motivational, you will contribute to matching and surpassing what has been achieved so far. This is an exciting time in the academy’s journey to establish itself as an outstanding provider of high-quality education, and with the changes come opportunities. We are looking for a strong leader to take up the Principal position and work with the governors and CEO to deliver our clear plan of improvement. The successful candidate will develop academy systems and ensure that it is Outstanding in every category within three years, creating a team whose mission it is to embed excellence throughout the academy.

Committed to creating an environment that promotes academic, creative, sporting, linguistic and personal achievement, you will be a highly successful school leader and will have made a significant positive contribution to an academy, its leadership, student outcomes and ethos. In addition, excellent communication skills and confidence to develop rich partnerships with families and the community will be essential. Above all, you’ll have the drive and determination to establish the City of London Academy Southwark as a centre of excellence for education.

Visits to the academy to meet the CEO are welcomed and can be arranged for the afternoons of Thursday 6 September and Friday 7 September. Visits are by appointment only and can be arranged by emailing colat.jobs@cityoflondon.gov.uk.

If you would like to build your future with us and be part of this exciting journey, please visit www.cola.org.uk to download a job pack and application form. Application forms should be submitted with a letter of application (maximum 1000 words) which addresses the following question: Given the information publicly available about City of London Academy Southwark, and based on your skills, knowledge and experience, how would you take the school from Good to Outstanding within your first three years as Principal? Completed application forms with accompanying letters of application and a signed candidate privacy statement should be emailed to colat.jobs@cityoflondon.gov.uk by the closing date.

The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and as part of the selection process an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check will be required.

Closing date: Tuesday 18 September, 9am. Interviews will take place on Thursday 27 September.
