Bellahouston Academy is a mixed, mainstream, non-denominational secondary school located in south-west Glasgow. The academy is designed to accommodate 1,100 students aged 11-18. It is the only specialist sports school in Scotland, specialising in athletics, swimming, gymnastics, hockey and badminton. Many former pupils have gone on to win stellar sport accolades, including Olympic medals. 

The original Bellahouston Academy was opened in 1876. It has since been refurbished into a modern learning setting, with 31 classrooms and a large sports hall equipped with an aerobics studio, treatment room and conference area. There are also four indoor physical education areas and upgraded outdoor sports pitches. The school has attracted visitors such as Olympian Dame Kelly Holmes.

Values and vision 

Bellahouston Academy aims to empower every child to learn and develop to their full potential. The school simultaneously strives to tackle problems faced by children owing to social deprivation and poverty, and to promote the values of responsible citizenship. 

The academy is a National Centre of Excellence and receives funding support from the Scottish government. Each sport has its own coaching team, many of whom are Olympic medallists. Glasgow School of Sport at Bellahouston Academy gained its first Olympian, Michael Jamieson, in 2012, who won a silver medal in swimming.
