About the School

The British School Yangon (BSY) was founded in 2014 and quickly became the school of choice for expatriate and Myanmar parents, looking for an international education. Since the State of Emergency was announced in 2021, we have seen a decline in expatriate students as companies have relocated out of the country. The school enrolment is now around 200 students from mainly local Myanmar families.

Nord Anglia Education remains committed to the Yangon community and to providing a first-class education for our students. Yangon itself is a safe city and maintains a good standard of living for its teachers and leadership.

Our school has a warm and welcoming atmosphere, a strong sense of community and high academic standards. We deliver the English National Curriculum, adapted to an international environment and we pride ourselves on our personalized approach to education, inspiring our students to build a strong foundation of skills and knowledge which they will continue to develop throughout their schooling.

We currently educate students between the ages of 2 to 18 and follow the English National Curriculum throughout the school. We are also the only school in Myanmar to offer the International Primary Curriculum. Secondary students take the (I)GCSE and A Level examinations, equipping them to study anywhere in the world.

In August 2018 the school relocated to a purpose-built, state-of-the-art facility that is easily the best in Yangon. The campus is conveniently located close to Inya Lake on Taw Win Street, opposite Victoria hospital. The British School Yangon (BSY) is accredited by the Council of British International Schools (COBIS) and is a member of FOBISIA, demonstrating its commitment to high educational standards and student well-being.

We are the only school in Myanmar to offer the unique global opportunities that are available through the Nord Anglia Education family of over 80 schools around the world. Our students and staff benefit from Nord Anglia’s exclusive programmes, including our Global Campus, Nord Anglia University, and collaborations with The Juilliard School, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), UNICEF and IMG Academy.

The Role

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced and visionary leader to drive academic excellence, foster a dynamic school community, and inspire students to achieve their full potential in a globally connected environment. The role is possibly more challenging than most but will suit an ambitious leader who wants to make a difference to the lives of children despite external circumstances and be ready to grow the school again as the situation within Myanmar improves. The Principal takes responsibility for the leadership, organisation and management of the whole school. The post-holder’s key deliverables are aligned with the annual school quality review and the school’s strategic plan. She/he must be an excellent communicator and compelling storyteller to ensure our new families understand our dynamic educational offer for their children, which will in turn drive strong student enrolment.

Key objectives include education quality and outcomes, student well-being, school growth, financial targets, staff development, and resource utilisation.

The successful applicant will:

  • Hold a recognised teaching qualification at least at Bachelor degree level.
  • Demonstrate evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Have direct experience of working with the English National Curriculum.
  • Bring experience of school leadership within an international context.
  • A track record of driving exceptionally high academic standards.
  • Be comfortable managing growth and change.

What we offer

When you join a Nord Anglia Education school, you join a global community of more than 17,000 people working together to support our students’ success. We offer you:

  • Unsurpassed opportunities to innovate and develop best practice across our family of schools
  • Access to extensive professional development
  • Professional support of the highest level
  • Exceptional career opportunities

Our promise is that you will have opportunities to progress more, learn more, and collaborate more.

As a part of our family, you will be a valued member of our Global Senior Leadership Team, which helps shape the vision and drive the success of Nord Anglia Education. Professional and personal development is part of our DNA, so you will be supported by education experts and other committed professionals through Nord Anglia University and our leadership programmes. Additionally, we offer competitive remuneration, relocation assistance and a comprehensive induction into our organisation.

How to apply

We welcome applications from individuals who are passionate about education and have the skills and experience to make a significant impact on our students and school community.

To apply for this role, please include a CV and letter of application.
