Job overview

Learning sits at the heart of this role, you would be leading the educational work if the Academy with the passion and high standards required to ensure the vision for the school and Trust are achieved.  Through the role you will inspire, challenge, support and empower students and staff to achieve all they can be, really embodying the We Believe in Best ethos.  The role will require you to continue to raise standards at pace with a leadership team that is committed to doing so and the support of the wider Trust Leadership team.

The school is highly aspirational and the role requires an aspirational leader.  You will be dynamic, grounded and pragmatic, and committed to securing the highest standards of learning, teaching and leadership at the school.  You will be an active player in our wider Trust, supporting leadership of school improvement and collaborative developments, within the Trust and beyond. You will be part of the wider RSA Family of Academies, supporting the development of those within the wider RSA Family.

You will be working at Deputy Headteacher/Vice-Principal or at Headteacher/Principal level and have a strong and proven track record of leading change, raising attainment and developing educational strategy.  It is a critical yet exciting time to join the school and wider Trust and an excellent opportunity

The Central RSA Academies Trust is a group of primary and secondary RSA Academies with a strong link with the RSA. This is an incredibly exciting opportunity to join a forward thinking, Midlands based multi academy Trust with an utter moral drive to ensure the best educational outcomes for our students and striving to make a difference to the lives of our young people.

We currently have five schools within our Trust, with children from the age of three up to Sixth Form aged young adults. Our schools are in two hubs, in Tipton in the West Midlands and in Redditch, Worcestershire.  The schools and their staff work together to ensure the best possible learning for the young people, by supporting each other through expertise and sharing so that our staff can be the best they can be.

This is an exciting and challenging role and you will need to provide strong leadership to staff, students, governors and partners. You will need to be able to maximise individual achievement and attainment through an inclusive approach, high quality learning and teaching which motivates, inspires, challenges and empowers students and staff.

We will expect you:

  • to challenge, support and inspire students and staff by creating a shared vision and clear direction of improvement for the Academy.
  • to ensure a consistent and continuous Academy-wide focus on raising pupils’ achievement and attainment.
  • to be passionate about the role and be able to organise and implement a diverse, flexible curriculum with an effective assessment framework.
  • to manage the Academy’s financial and human resources effectively and efficiently to achieve the Academy’s educational goals and priorities, with support from the Trust. Developing all students’ and staff’s versatile skills and attitudes required for lifelong learning in a rapidly changing world.

Using a collaborative learning culture within the Academy you will actively engage with other schools and partners to build effective learning communities, in particular those in the Central RSA Academies Trust.

You will be a leader that develops the Academy, building the commitment of all stakeholders to a culture of constant improvement; so that the Academy can fulfil its potential, fostering a reputation for high academic performance and pastoral care.

Gospel Oak School, formerly the RSA Academy serves the borough of Sandwell, but due to its geographical position students join us from Wolverhampton and Walsall.  In 2017 the school joined the Central RSA Academies Trust and has been working closely and collaboratively across the trust to offer greater opportunities for all.  Over the last 5 years the trust has grown in size and strength, from September 2021 the trust is now an academy approved sponsor in its own right and the RSA will no longer sponsor the trust, although we will continue to work closely with the RSA.  This changing relationship has provided the trust and the school to rebrand ourselves, the trust will now be known as Central Region Schools Trust and the school; Gospel Oak School.

The rebrand for the school has allowed us to reflect on the true heritage of the local community.  The school is based in Gospel Oak and as a community we are very proud of our Black Country heritage, it is for this reason our new branding reflects the colours of the Black Country along with symbolic representation of the area, with the narrowboat which reflects the locality of the Gospel Oak canal basin, the oak tree for when the parish was so large the parishioners prayed under it once a month and the Black Country links to industry within the area.
