About Our School

On behalf of the Board of Korowa we invite applications from leaders across Australia and the international community to apply for the position of Principal of Korowa Anglican Girl’s School. Korowa is an Independent Anglican Girls’ School in Glen Iris, in the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne catering for 740 students from early years through to Year 12. Korowa is known for its academic excellence, broad curriculum and innovative learning for girls. We have a strong team of 152 staff supporting our students across teaching and support roles and a school Council dedicated to the strategic vision of Korowa.

About The Role

This position will appeal to an experienced, knowledgeable and skilful school leader who is well versed in the provision of an outstanding education for girls as it applies in an Independent School context. The successful candidate will be a collaborative, warm and innovative professional with a demonstrated growth mindset and strong desire to ensure that Korowa is preparing its students to thrive in a rapidly changing world, remaining at the forefront of education in Australia.

Key Selection Criteria

As part of your application, you will need to demonstrate:

  • strong collaborative communication and interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence.
  • the ability to effectively build and lead authentic partnerships with stakeholders and the school community including staff, students and broader community; being visible and engaged across the Korowa community
  • the ability to lead collaboratively and with empathy, including through the transition to a new Principal.
  • the ability to recruit, engage and retain the school’s strong staff, including to sustainably develop a high performing team. A deep understanding of the pedagogical principles and methods underpinning school based curriculum.
  • experience in the implementation of primary and secondary curriculum.
  • a strategic mindset including the ability to undertake strategic analysis and planning and make evidence based strategic decisions, implement systems, and manage finances and resources effectively and equitably.
  • a growth mindset and thought leadership for the school in setting up the next stage of Korowa’s future, in particular in the areas of well being, STEM/STEAM programs and the future of education in Victoria and Australia.
  • how you will effectively collaborate with the school Council to uphold effective governance and operational management to ensure that all decisions lead to the continued success, wellbeing and excellence of the school.

Korowa Anglican Girls’ School is an all-girls, non-selective, independent day and secondary school, serving students aged 4-18. Located in Glen Iris, Victoria.  The school has approximately 740 students and 152 staff. Founded in 1890, Korowa has been recognised as one of Victoria’s leading independent schools and has over 125 years of proud heritage.

Facilities

Located on one campus, Korowa offers a full range of facilities to support students in all areas of learning and co-curricular activities. Our buildings are modern, light-filled spaces designed to be conducive to both individual and collaborative learning. Dedicated buildings for Junior School and Middle School students are contemporary in their approach and design.

We have a re-developed playground for Junior School including new play equipment, amphitheatre for outdoor learning and open play areas as well as a newly renovated playground space for our Early Learning Students including a sandpit and large astroturf space for various outdoor learning activities and play.

The school has a very modern science wing and STEAM lab, with a food technology centre included in it. Facilities include music and drama studios to support drama performances, a media studio centre, with industry standard recording and editing facilities and a visual arts centre which caters to the full spectrum of art subjects and houses a photographic darkroom, a graphic design studio, a ceramics studio and a kiln.

The school has extensive libraries with top of the line technology and in 2020 work commenced on a new Sports and Wellbeing Centre, due to be completed in early 2022. Located in the heart of the school the building includes an 8-lane swimming pool and changerooms, multi-use indoor sports courts, fully equipped gym, studio spaces for dance, pilates and yoga, Perceptual Motor Program (PMP) studio, consulting rooms for our health services, multipurpose room for drama performances and events and a rooftop netball court.

Curriculum

The Senior School follows the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) curriculum, with Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses offered for non-academic students. A wide range of subjects are taught to the students and the curriculum is responsive and dynamic. The Year 9 program includes a 30-day trek where the girls must carry with them everything they will need throughout the journey. International exchange options are available to students.
