About Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College

Ethos and Commitment

Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College is located in the beautiful city of Worcester. The College’s Mission can be encapsulated in the phrase “a commitment to Gospel Values and Personal Achievement”. The Gospel Values we develop, with parents, in our children are those of Love, Truth, Compassion, Holiness, Forgiveness, Justice, Sacrifice and Peace. We welcome pupils of other World Faiths and together as the “People of God” we believe in the uniqueness and goodness of each individual.

It is our intention that all pupils achieve their maximum potential academically and are able to develop each of their talents to the fullest. Each pupil is expected to commit to this principle and we work closely with parents and young adults to ensure that every opportunity and chance to succeed is seized.

Values and Responsibility

We are a community which places the child at the centre. The good school should reflect the good home. In each environment the child is nurtured, supported, loved and challenged. The values which are present in the good home are the same values which we strive to ensure permeate through the college. We listen through a variety of channels to the “pupil’s voice”. This includes Year and College Councils, Principal’s Meetings, Academic Boards, Departmental Councils, Mentoring and Befriending Panels.

Objectives and Learning

Learning is at the centre of our college activity. We are committed to a “Learn 2 Learn” programme and the 5 R’s i.e. Reflecting, Resourcefulness, Reasoning, Resilience and Responsibility. The 4 part lesson is integral to our effective teaching including clear learning objectives and plenaries. Interactive ICT hardware is in every teaching room and utilised in the delivery of lessons. ICT is a major motivational force in effective teaching and learning in the college. Every year pupils achieve excellent examination results which prepare them for post 16 education and increases their life chances.

Enrichment and the Curriculum

Our entitlement for our pupils includes a wide range of activities which support and enrich the curriculum. This entitlement and curriculum was rated as “outstanding” in our recent Ofsted Report. A variety of international trips to countries as far apart and diverse as America, Canada, India, Thailand, Malta, Germany and France allows pupils to develop their knowledge, skills and service to other people. Pupils participate in a wide range of national, regional and local competitions and showcase events.
