Job overview

Full-time (52 wpy) or term-time, by negotiation

Are you a qualified teacher in further education with experience working with students who have profound and multiple learning disabilities? Do you want to step into a leadership role while maintaining your teaching expertise?

No Limits is part of the national charity MacIntyre. We provide bespoke integrated education and support programmes for children and young people with a learning disability, behavioural, emotional and social difficulties.

In 2015 we opened a brilliant new further education centre in Camden, in partnership with Westminster Kingsway College and the London Borough of Camden. At Alexandra Centre, we support young people of college age who have a range of complex behaviours, including autism and/or profound and multiple learning disabilities.

We now want to add to our team as we recruit for an additional Programme Coordinator with experience of working with young people with profound and multiple learning disabilities to play a part in overseeing and implementing this innovative education provision.

About the role

You will manage the planning and implementation of the curriculum, ensuring that a flexible and individual educational programme is developed for each student, and that their learning, social and emotional developmental needs are met in imaginative and original ways. Our focus for our students is on health, employment, independent living and community inclusion. You will spend half of your time delivering learning.

Managing and mentoring a small staff team, you will ensure the successful deployment of staff, physical and financial resources.

About you

In addition to a relevant teaching qualification (CTTLS equivalent at a minimum), you will need experience of teaching students with severe and complex learning disabilities, specifically PMLD or Autism and behaviour that challenges, supporting them to overcome barriers to learning.

You will be able to build relationships across boundaries, with students, your staff team, colleagues, advocates and families.

Alexandra Centre of Further Education is a further education college that caters for young people aged 16-25 with special educational needs and disabilities, located in Camden, North London. The centre opened its doors in September 2015 as a partnership between national charity MacIntyre, Westminster Kingsway College and the London Borough of Camden.

It was London’s first FE provider specifically for young people with disabilities and special education needs and can cater for up to 50 students.

MacIntyre is a national charity providing education, learning, support and care to more than 1,500 adults, children and young people with learning disabilities, autism, and complex needs.

Values and vision

The centre’s “No Limits” programme of further education is targeted at those with severe and complex needs. This programme focuses on health, employment, community inclusion and independent living.

Alexandra Centre of Further Education aims to offer learning that is flexible and individualised, designed to focus on what students need to learn in order to help them transition from school to adulthood.

Students are given an Individual Learning Plan, and the centre aspires to ensuring that each learner is given a stimulating, meaningful and exciting time in college.

The centre aims to offer a vibrant and stimulating environment while focussing on rigour and the attainment required for progression. It aims to help every student to become a well-rounded, confident citizen, ready to take their place in society.

Students at the Alexandra Centre of Further Education can access courses and vocational training at other Westminster Kingsway College Centres, including health and beauty, catering and creative arts programmes.
