Ambitious about Autism is the national charity for children and young people with autism. Our mission is to help children and young people with autism to learn, thrive and achieve. We work to improve the services available for children and young people with autism, to increase awareness and understanding of autism, to campaign for change and, through TreeHouse School, The Rise School and Ambitious College, to offer outstanding specialist education and support.


Through our new and exciting programme of work, Employ Autism, we aim to affect national system change for how young people with autism transition to sustained employment. We will form regional clusters through which we will test, learn and build evidence. 


The Employ Autism programme uses elements of our already proven and successful model Autism Exchange, and will be rolled out across six regions over three years. It will:


Coordinate employers, educational settings, local authorities and third sector providers as well as parent, carers and young people with autism to build a regional network 

Provide a comprehensive set of co-produced resources including training, toolkits and on-line community

Equip employers with the knowledge and tools necessary to access a whole new talent pool of autistic employees and to support those already within their workforce

Share the evaluation and learnings from the regional programmes to encourage replication and influence changes in policy and practice both nationally and locally. 

The Programme Manager - Employ Autism will work in partnership with the Programme Director and a regional Project Officer to develop, coordinate and deliver programme related outputs across three of six English regions.


Each region will require:


steering group meetings 

focus groups

careers and employability events

training sessions

evaluation of services

The Programme manager will coordinate and monitor outputs and outcomes working with key partners including young people with autism and those who know them well, employers, education providers, third sector partners and local authorities.


We are seeking to appoint a candidate who has experience of employability programmes within a third sector or education environment. The candidate will also have experience of managing projects successfully as well as lived experience or an interest in autism.


The successful candidate will be required to work remotely with the ability to travel across a wide area of the country.

TreeHouse School is a non-maintained special school that was founded in 1997. Based in the heart of a thriving community in north London, it educates autistic pupils aged three to 19 from across London and the Home Counties.

Using the Ambitious Approach to education, pupils receive specialist and personalised support through a dedicated transdisciplinary team of qualified teachers, speech therapists, occupational therapists and behaviour specialists.

Our Curriculum:

Our curriculum is tailored to each pupil’s unique qualities, specific needs, and individual starting points. In this way, we can set accurate targets for progress.

In our individualised learning programmes, we assess each pupil extensively and consider their strengths and what they find more challenging. Our curriculum is creative and flexible, using our natural environment to extend pupils’ learning. You are as likely to see maths being practised in the shop, the community or the garden as you are in the classroom. Where appropriate, our curriculum is linked to and, where necessary, differentiated from the National Curriculum’s requirements.

Our personalised curriculum is:

  • intensive
  • goal-directed
  • guided by pupil performance.

What is like to learn here:

Pupils at TreeHouse School enjoy many educational trips, including visits to the local shops and cafés, or places of interest in London and further afield. Educational visits are an important part of the vibrant curriculum experience.

TreeHouse School also plays a key role in the local community, having long-established links with organisations and businesses in Muswell Hill and across north London.
