Bridgeway School is a co-educational day school based in Bamber Bridge near Preston and provides for pupil aged 11-18 with special educational needs relating to ASD and associated complex needs. Many pupils present with additional co-existing conditions, such as ADHD, attachment disorder and speech and language difficulties, which impact significantly on their learning and progress. 

As part of the Witherslack Group, we provide outstanding schooling for young people with a range of complex educational needs. For instance, some function at an incredibly high level but may have ADHD, social communication difficulties or autism and struggle to maintain concentration, whilst others may need emotional support to help them achieve their potential. Each young person’s set of needs requires a unique approach. Our teachers are there to channel their individual capabilities into academic success, as part of a holistic and uniquely attentive educational strategy – and all of this from a setting that is truly inspiring to both pupils and teachers.

The Role

The role is an exciting chance to shape the strategic direction of how the teaching of PSHE and Personal Development is delivered at Bridgeway School. This is an opportunity to work closely with the Senior Leadership Team to help build an exciting curriculum that develops pupils’ skills to live independent and informed lives.

You will work with other teaching staff to develop how all subjects support PSHE and model this through your own outstanding teaching practice. You will put our pupils first and use your creativity and drive to adapt to the needs of our young people. This will be done through the support and guidance of an ambitious Senior Leadership Team to maintain and develop a unique and exciting curriculum. 

Your ambition and drive will inspire, challenge and provide pupils with the support they need to succeed and flourish through outstanding teaching and learning. 

You will be working with amazing young people with diagnoses of predominantly ASD and a range of other SEND, developing a curriculum that supports their individual needs.  It will be challenging and rewarding in equal measure. You will be working as part of a close and hardworking team; that strives daily to deliver the best possible education to our pupils through outstanding teaching and learning.  

The Person

We are looking for a person with a clear vision and drive who wants to develop the wider skills of young people and develop their own teaching and learning. You will want to make a difference to the lives of young people and look for new and creative ideas to do so.

You will:

  • Have an understanding of the new PSHE/RSE statutary requirements
  • Have extensive experience of Key Stages 3-4
  • Be an outstanding teacher able to model teaching and learning through your own practice
  • Be ambitious and have experience of differentiating work to support pupil progress
  • Have an understanding of how to prepare pupils for post-16 destinations
  • Have an understanding of the latest Ofsted framework
