Belmont School is an independent SEMH school for boys aged 7 to 18 and is part of the Acorn Care and Education Group which has nine similar schools across the country. Our Victorian school building has been completely refurbished to provide four modern classrooms, each with state of the art ICT provision, plus various specialist rooms and great outdoor play facilities.
Belmont School is located on Haslingden Road, Rawtenstall, with easy access to both the M65 and the M66. The property is of Victorian design, built approximately 100 years ago, it occupies an extensive site in excess of 3 acres, with the Coach House and Hadfield block in the grounds. The site was formerly a local authority special needs school, which was extensively re-furbished.
The school has been established and is managed by Acorn Care & Education who have extensive experience in the management of schools for pupils with Emotional Social and Behavioural Difficulties and potentially other Learning Difficulties. Belmont School is approved by the DfES to provide specialist education for 120 boys aged 7-18 who experience Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties with potentially other Learning Difficulties.
The approach is individually based in line with the Code of Practice and the school aims to forge practical working partnerships with pupils, parents/carers and involved professionals. The aim of the establishment is to encourage children to achieve and succeed personally, academically, socially and develop their self confidence that will enable them to cope in everyday situations, and manage the transition from school to college or work environments.
The intention is to provide a local resource for pupils, parents and local authorities within one hour travelling distance, this will allow children to be retained within their family and community environments.
1.To follow the school’s safeguarding procedures and policies.
2.To work with and support individual and groups of pupils, in conjunction with teaching/instructor staff, in relation to relevant programmes of study.
3.To record relevant educational, social and behavioural information within an agreed framework.
4.To implement individual education programmes
5.To encourage the social, behavioural and emotional development of pupils through positive approaches that enhance appropriate relationships, develop self-esteem and promote life skills.
6.To encourage and develop key and life skills, such as independence skills, on task behaviour and essential skills necessary for the work environment.
7.To accompany class groups on external educational visits.
8.To assist teaching/instructor staff in group and individual behaviour management, as per the schools policies.
9.To assist in classroom organisation and display work.
10.To attend staff briefings and meetings and contribute constructively on specific issues to encourage development of good practice for the benefit of pupils and the whole school.
11.To participate in INSET and staff development programmes.
12.To eat with the children at lunch time, encouraging appropriate behaviour, positive conversation and acceptable eating and table habits
13.To supervise pupils at break times and participate in allocated social activities.
14.To act as a key worker where necessary, to provide individual counselling and support for pupil as and when necessary.
15.To be involved in the school’s PMR, supervision and appraisal systems.
16.To complete effort/tracking and individual files for pupil groups.
17.To participate in the supervision and transport of pupils on detention under the direction of the behaviour management team.
18.To provide relevant information to key staff concerning individual pupils, e.g. causes for concern, CP/Safeguarding issues, risk assessments, behaviour patterns and any other relevant information.
19.To correspond with parents when directed by a senior member of staff.
Pupil support workers may not be required to work more than 195 days in any one year, of which 190 days shall be days on which he/she may be required to assist in the teaching of pupils. All candidates will be required to have an enhanced disclosure through the DBS. This will be paid for by Belmont School. The post is temporary from September 2018 until the end of the Summer Term 2019, this post is maternity cover.
