The Position: 

We are seeking an enthusiastic professional with qualifications and experience working with students in the Primary school.

Candidates should be committed to high standards, positive energy, interested in using innovative approaches to learning, and enthusiastic about promoting international understanding. 

A strong commitment to purposeful teaching, collaborative planning and open communication is essential. 

Applicants must be willing to be active, flexible participants in a hard-working team of teachers. The initial contract will be fixed term for 12 months, after which there may be the possibility of converting the contract into a permanent position of employment. Candidates should be well-qualified and experienced in IB.

Experience supporting PYP students in their research skills.

Essential:

Librarian qualifications and experience

To hold "Certified Teaching Status" or equivalent qualifications.

To have had a minimum of two years teaching experience with students in Primary School.

To be an EU passport holder or already be in possession of a valid visa that enables to work in Italy. 

A love of knowledge and learning and a passion for books. Deep knowledge of books with an interest in a variety of genres and types of books to advise readers/parents/teachers as to good books suitable for reading level and interests.

Strong organisational skills, Computer skills - Ability to use technology and to use it to enhance the overall effectiveness of a library, including web based methods of improving technological access to information.

Good with numbers - Good overall knowledge of archiving and filing information as well as maintaining databases and reference information.

Capable of evaluating resources and finding the best ones for addressing different questions or issues.

Ability to search databases, internet resources, and catalogs to find needed information quickly and professionally.

Ability to promote reading and fundamental in driving World book week event

Ability to present information clearly and in an interesting manner

Ability to adapt to new tools, systems, and situations as they arise – library and information technology is constantly evolving and shifting, and librarians must be able to evolve along with it

Team player Friendly, Ethical, Personable

Ability to help overcome issues by focusing on solutions instead of on the problems

Organizational skills that are enhanced through regular additional efforts


Desirable:

Previous experience with IB programmes is desirable but not essential 

Experience and qualifications and potentially support the MYP/DP librarian to ensure whole school systems

Learning support assistant (Grade 4 PYP): The additional experience of being able to support an individual student with Maths and English in class would take this from 0.5 to a 0.75 part time position. 

Committed to high standards, interested in using innovative approaches to learning and enthusiastic about promoting international understanding. 

Teaching

• To plan and prepare and conduct appropriately the assigned library lessons 

• To demonstrate competence in classroom instruction and implement IB curriculum,

• To plan and implement effective classroom management practices;

• To adapt instruction/support to students’ differences in development, learning styles, strengths and needs;

• To maintain a safe, orderly environment conducive to learning;

• To comply with requirements for the safety and supervision of students inside and outside the classroom;

• To pursue relevant opportunities to grow professionally and keep up-to-date about the current knowledge and research in the subject area.

Assessment

• To define and communicate learning expectations to students;

• To evaluate students’ performances in an objective, fair and timely manner;

• To use student assessment data to guide changes in instruction and practice, and to improve student learning.
