Raising Standards Leader – Maths

MPS/UPS (£22,917-£38,633) + TLR (£6217)

Required for September 2018

Are you ready to take the next step in your pathway to subject leadership and beyond?

Do you have a proven track record of successful outcomes?

Would you like to be a key figure in making sure that all our young people achieve academic success in Maths?

Maths is undoubtedly a strength of Kennet School, with our department consistently recognised as a beacon of excellence both locally and nationally. If you’re ambitious to progress professionally, this could be a perfect stepping stone towards a Head of Department position in the future.

So, what are we looking for?  Someone who is passionate about delivering an innovative and interesting Maths curriculum, who is confident with using data, but more importantly how to use this to generate information and have an impact on the learning of our pupils.  As a Raising Standards Leader you will be responsible for maintaining the highest of standards and role modelling excellence whilst supporting other Maths teachers to accelerate the closing of gaps when identified, raising aspiration and attainment for our young people.  We are rightly proud of the success of our Maths department but recognise the value of collaboration with new colleagues and welcome fresh ideas to further our success

We’d like you to be able to offer Maths at KS5, and ideally Further Maths too, but we’re happy to consider teachers who only have 11-16 experience and a desire to extend their own practice.

You’re likely to be an experienced colleague and we want to offer you every opportunity to hone your own teaching practice and develop your career.  We run an in-house leadership programme (Leaders for the Future) focusing on high level discussion, reading and research. All staff are encouraged to engage with professional development opportunities including both external courses and internal programmes such as our working groups and TeachMeet.

Our PPA time is deliberately generous, aiming to give our teachers a chance to maintain a healthy work-life balance and build strong departments. We also allocate significant funding every year to professional development, well above national average, and offer the chance to contribute to working groups on teaching & learning and literacy.

In short, we are committed to investing in every member of staff - we see this as an investment for our both our staff, and the young people they serve.

So, why not invest an hour to come and see Kennet School for yourself?  We love welcoming visitors to our school and are confident our current staff and fabulous young people will convince you to join us.

More information on our school can be found at https://www.hays.co.uk/jobs/kennet-school/index.htm

To apply: click the ‘Quick Apply’ button below or contact our partner recruiter at Hays Education, Richard Lanning, 01273 729465 richard.lanning@hays.com  Informal discussions and requests for  application packs are extremely welcome.

Closing date: 9am, 18 April.  Kennet School reserve the right to close and shortlist early, therefore early applications are encouraged.

This school is committed to safeguarding children and expects all staff to share in that commitment; successful candidates will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Welcome to Kennet School’s dedicated career site. Below you will find information about what makes Kennet such a unique and rewarding place to develop your career. You will also find all of our current vacancies listed at the bottom of the page.

What We Believe

At Kennet we place learning at the heart of everything we do. Many schools claim to do this, but we believe this is a defining and visible quality of our organisation.

We are an open and collaborative community. Through research and evidence-informed practice, we seek to drive education reform through the heart of our school, making decisions that are right for our pupils, as a team, every single day.

History & Context

Kennet is  a dynamic and ambitious 11-18 comprehensive school which opened in September 1957. The school has grown over the last 65 years, both in terms of size and success. We currently have approximately 1,900 pupils on roll including strong numbers in the Sixth Form at around 380 pupils. We were  judged by Ofsted to be Outstanding in May 2016 and have accumulated a number of awards including Arts Mark Platinum, Exceptional Schools Award, NACE Challenge Award, Investors in Careers and the Sandwell Well-Being Charter Mark focusing on the mental health and well-being of our whole organisation.

Professional Development

We are extremely proud of the quality of our professional development programmes. In their 2016 report Ofsted commented that “there is a shared drive to improve teaching so that teaching and learning are always at the heart of the school’s work. Leaders and teachers see themselves as professional students and seek to improve and develop their practice continuously.”.

We believe strongly in investing in individuals and their careers and our aim is to help every member of staff be the best they can be through our professional growth programme.

We also provide bespoke support for early career teachers and we have developed a programme for recently qualified teachers which takes teachers from their ECT years through to their third year of teaching, preparing them to take on significant positions of responsibility.

Benefits

  • High quality PD programmes and opportunities for progression
  • Supportive culture of lesson observation and coaching
  • Career support at all levels of experience
  • State of the Art facilities and resources
  • Excellent IT infrastructure and provision for staff and pupils
  • Leisure centre on site
  • Cycle to Work scheme
