Opportunity for a Primary Teacher with a specialism in the Teaching of Reading
We wish to appoint a part-time reading tutor for the new school year, to replace a dyslexia specialist who has done excellent work for the past three years. We have very well-established systems for teaching reading, and for monitoring the development of reading skills in all our children so that additional support is targeted effectively to help all children to become readers, regardless of their English language ability or specific learning difficulties.
Our new colleague will:
- support individual children across the whole school on a 1:1 basis with the development of reading skills (comprehension and decoding);
- support small groups of children with the development of reading comprehension skills;
- contribute to the ‘reading culture’ of the whole school.
Our ideal reading tutor will:
- have experience of delivering catch-up reading programmes such as Reading Recovery;
- have a recognized qualification – or be working towards a recognized qualification – in the teaching of reading or specific learning difficulties;
- be sensitive to the emotional as well as learning challenges for children who are at risk of falling behind in learning to read.
Seven Mills is a small, friendly and successful single-form entry primary school, located just five minutes walk from Canary Wharf. We currently have 240 keen, well-behaved children on roll who are eager to learn. The school was graded ‘good’ by Ofsted in 2014. We have a broad and balanced curriculum, and we work for creativity, excellence and enjoyment in everything we do. We have both experienced leadership and strong, well-established systems to support all our children to make good progress in their learning, including effective intervention programmes.
Further information and an application pack may be downloaded from the school's website: www.sevenmills.towerhamlets.sch.uk
As we would like to appoint as early in September as possible, please contact the headteacher on head@sevenmills.towerhamlets.sch.uk to arrange an informal discussion of the role and/or visit to the school.
Supporting statements for applications should be no more than 800 words long, and should explain the experiences you have had to make you a good candidate for this post. The post is not suitable for NQTs.
