Job overview

Barnardiston Hall is a well-regarded day and boarding prep school for girls and boys aged 6 months to 13 years. Set in 36 acres of Suffolk countryside, some 30 minutes from Cambridge, the School is family-owned and run, with approximately 220 pupils. The School has a strong reputation in local senior schools for producing well-rounded and confident young people, the majority of whom move onto their first-choice senior schools at age 13.

We are seeking, from September 2023, an experienced Teacher for pupils from Reception to KS1. This may suit a newly qualified teacher as well as someone more experienced. The post is either residential or day with some residential duties.

Besides the ability to teach to a high standard, an enthusiasm for all areas of School Life is essential. This is, therefore, an exciting opportunity for someone who is also looking to get involved in the other areas of the curriculum such as sport, music or drama.

All staff at the School benefit from a 50% fee reduction for their children attending the School. Staff are on Main Scale up to Scale Point 6. The School also operates a pension scheme. On-site bed-sit accommodation and food is available in exchange for boarding duties for anyone interested in joining our small residential team. All staff residential and non-residential, are involved with our boarders by being on duty for one weekday evening each week and one weekend day every three / four weeks.

All applications will be considered immediately on receipt and so early applications are encouraged.

Barnardiston Hall Preparatory School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be subject to appropriate vetting procedures and a satisfactory Enhanced DBS with Barred List check

About Barnardiston Hall Preparatory School

Barnardiston Hall Preparatory School caters for girls and boys aged 2-13 years. Pupils are prepared for Common Entrance and entry to Independent and State Schools.

Set in 32 acres of grounds on the borders of Suffolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire, the School offers individual all-round education for boys and girls, both day and boarding (weekly and full). High standards are achieved by small classes (average 14 children, maximum 20) who are taught by graduate and teacher-trained staff. There is a caring approach and close liaison with parents.

With the completion of a major new extension, we now believe that we offer some of the very best classroom facilities of any school in the area whilst our Pre-Prep Department enables younger children to learn in bright and spacious classrooms, in a traditional building full of character and charm.
