Job overview

WHO WE ARE

Pimlico Primary is a state-funded primary school based in the heart of Westminster in central London. We are part of Future Academies, a multi-academy trust which includes three primary schools and seven secondary schools in and around London. We are motivated by a mission of social change and reducing educational inequality: our school and Trust are unique in our approach to a knowledge-rich curriculum, and in our strong emphasis on raising children’s aspirations and outcomes through the teaching of classical and traditional subjects. Our children study a bespoke curriculum developed by writers at our Curriculum Centre, which places a focus on developing their cultural literacy and their awareness of the forces, words and events that have shaped our society today. We subject-specialise at primary level, meaning that our primary children are taught by several different subject experts, as they would be in the private sector. Pimlico Primary serves children from the most socially deprived communities: our staff can therefore make a dramatic impact on the lives of these children.

THE ROLE

In this key role, you will provide a high quality front-line service to pupils, parents, staff and visitors to the Academy. Flexibility and strong interpersonal skills are vital when liaising with the public and Academy partners and you are expected to display the highest standards of client relationships on behalf of the Academy, in a professional manner at all times, demonstrating confidentiality, discretion and maturity. In addition, you will support the Head of School and wider Senior Leadership Team (SLT) with administrative and secretarial services as required, ensuring confidentiality is maintained.

This is a full-time role and you will be required to work 41.25 hours per week (07:45 – 16:30) plus 15 days in the holidays.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the first point of contact for the Academy greeting visitors, ensuring that security processes are in place and are followed, providing hospitality as appropriate
  • Manage the visitor register, ensuring all visitors sign in and wear a badge. Inform members of staff of visitor’s arrival and attended to any immediate needs.
  • Manage any parental enquiries in a discreet and respectful manner.
  • Support in the management of in-year school admissions.
  • Support in the annual year 7 transfer programme
  • Answer calls promptly and politely, directing calls to the correct recipient, taking messages and screening calls
  • Keep the reception / office area secure and tidy, informing the Facilities team of any health and safety issues.
  • Sort incoming post as soon as it arrives and deliver or place in appropriate post trays in the staff room. Ensure all outgoing post is processed ready for collection at the appropriate time.
  • Order stationery for the admin department as required from approved suppliers.
  • Maintain school noticeboards (in reception and at the main entrance of the academy).
  • Assist with parents’ evenings as directed
  • Provide routine clerical and administrative support, e.g. photocopying
  • With the Enrichment Co-ordinator, provide administrative support for school trips, enrichment activities and clubs, including managing payments from parents.
  • Be responsible for the school’s email account. Check regularly and respond appropriately, escalating to or notifying the correct member of SLT where appropriate.
  • Use the school’s communication systems to deliver messages to parents
  • Ascertain ad-hoc cover requirements in school and arrange cover, in conjunction with the Head of School and SENDCo
  • Provide timetables and lesson plans (where appropriate) to supply teachers
  • Maintain and follow up the school’s list of staff and pupil absences and report staff absences to SLT.
  • Create, maintain and update confidential student files
  • Maintain the accident book while adhering to GDPR regulations.
  • Administer First Aid to pupils when appropriate.
  • Support in the use and updating of the schools information management systems.
  • Undertake any other duties as may be reasonably required taking into account skills and experience.

About Pimlico Primary

Pimlico Primary is a new non-selective and non-denominational school in South Westminster.  The school opened with its first Reception cohort in September 2013 and continues to grow, year by year. Currently over 40% of our pupils are eligible for Pupil Premium and more than 70% speak English as an additional language.  Our knowledge-led curriculum inspires, and our excellent teaching challenges, with the result that children achieve highly while enjoying a vibrant and happy school life. We believe in giving children the very best start in life. Pimlico Primary truly is a place to grow.

A Unique Opportunity

Pimlico Primary’s building has been specially designed to support our knowledge-led curriculum.  The primary school building has a designated outdoor sheltered teaching space for children, library with adjoining roof terrace garden, art studio, hall, staffroom and fully resourced PPA room. On site, there is also an Ofsted ‘outstanding’ teaching school (the Pimlico SCITT) and Future Academies’ Curriculum Centre, which produces high quality resources  and research for the school.

Expanding a Successful School

Pimlico Primary shares a site with Pimlico Academy, an Ofsted ‘outstanding’ secondary school with a specialism in History and the Arts. Teachers and pupils have access to the wide range of specialist rooms and resources at the Academy, including drama studios, music rooms, and sporting facilities.

A Family of Schools

We are part of the Future Academies family of local schools.  Our sponsor, Future, is an educational charity that aims to help young people succeed.  It believes that, with the right support, encouragement and opportunities, there are no limits to what children can achieve.

Our proximity to our sister schools enables us to share effective practice and training opportunities.

Our Approach

Our approachto teaching and learning is coherent, cumulative and curriculum-led.   We believe that with the right preparation and delivery of classroom resources, pupils can engage with a broad range of different subjects from the day they start Reception.  Our curriculum is knowledge-led, which means that in addition to the important disciplines of English and Maths, our pupils will spend more time than other primaries focusing on History, Geography, Science, and the Arts.  Our Curriculum Centre collaborates with teachers and Teaching School to carefully design the content and sequence of our curriculum.

Raising Aspirations

We believe it’s our responsibility to broaden our pupils’ horizons.  Our knowledge-led curriculum gives pupils the means to explore and enjoy a world beyond their immediate environment.  Alongside this, our comprehensive Raising Aspirations Programme opens up a world of people and opportunities that demonstrate that, with effort and determination, the sky’s the limit of their achievement.

Our Commitment to Teachers

Overseen by Future Academies, Pimlico Primary works closely with the Curriculum Centre, Pimlico Teaching School and other training providers to ensure you receive bespoke training that makes a difference to your classroom practice.  We place a particular emphasis on curriculum development training and you will be supported in your use of existing resources and develop the knowledge and skills in order to make your own.  In order to accommodate this training, we’ve built an additional ten (maximum) paid days training into the academic year.  We are creating a dedicated curriculum development and resources room, so that you have all the materials you need to make effective and efficient use of your PPA time. Pimlico Primary is a new school with a handpicked enthusiastic, small staff.  As the school grows year by year, so too do the range of exciting opportunities and responsibilities that will be open to you.
