Job overview

Are you looking for a new challenge? Do you want to be part of an ‘Outstanding’ school? Do you want to be a part of an innovative team transforming the lives of children in the heart of London? Do you value developing the whole child as well as securing them brilliant GCSE results? If so, Oasis Academy South Bank is the place for you.

OASB opened in September 2013 and is a pioneering secondary school based in Waterloo. Ofsted graded us as Outstanding in all areas, in June 2015, calling us “A school where no child is left behind” (Ofsted, June 2015).  We have 600 students across Year 7 - Year 11. With a Sixth Form having opened in September 2018, there will be many opportunities for leadership and regular professional development.

Our main goal, our vision, is to enable our students to secure their dream job - implicit within that is the need for excellent GCSE results. However, we value our students as individuals and care deeply about the citizens they become. Our curriculum is structured to reflect our straight forward vision, with our unique Enrichment programme forming part of the everyday curriculum and enhancing our core traditional academic subjects.

Our vertical house groups are named after our six school values (Scholarship, Transformation, Aspiration, Inclusion, Resilience and Social Responsibility) and have formed a real sense of both family and competition within our students. Every morning, students spend an hour reading with their house group and this, combined with our newly opened library has created a real love of reading.

Success in later life is a key priority for us and we have embedded in our curriculum, the skills that we feel will facilitate this for our students. We have a clear and transparent behaviour management system that is consistently applied throughout the school, allowing teachers to teach without having to worry about low level disruption or students being ill-equipped for learning. The Ofsted inspection team who visited the Academy in 2015 noted that “behaviour and safety are outstanding. Students have a strong work ethic; their social responsibility and pride in the Oasis community are particular strengths”. Our weekly Shout-Out Assemblies encourage students to praise one another for the brilliant things they have done throughout the week and our half termly Celebration Assemblies allow us to recognise the students who consistently go above and beyond within their lessons and the wider school day with their families.

Our staff go above and beyond expectations to ensure that our students benefit from outstanding teaching and learning within the classroom. In 2015 Ofsted noted that “the quality of teaching is outstanding. Expectations of work and behaviour are high and lead to students achieving extremely well”. We work collaboratively across departments to develop our pedagogy and assessment practices. We spend time on a weekly basis supporting and observing both within our own subject area and in others, allowing us to integrate best practice across the school.

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of an outstanding, high performing team who are passionately committed to securing the best possible life chances for the young people of Waterloo. This role will require huge amounts of resilience, perseverance for the long haul and a constant drive for innovative excellence. However, this is also a role that will be incredibly rewarding and will offer exciting progression for the future.
