Job overview

I am delighted that you have expressed an interest in working at St Wilfrid’s Church of England Academy. We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Reflect Room Coordinator to work in our isolation room, supporting our students who are not in lessons for a variety of reasons due to behavioural or pastoral difficulties.

This role requires the successful candidate to provide a calm, respectful and purposeful environment for learning, as well as the ability to support our students with independent learning across the curriculum. The successful candidate must have a high degree of emotional intelligence, be able to work alongside students to help them reflect on the reasons for their placement in the unit and have the ability to set achievable targets which reduce the need for repeat referrals or the escalation of further sanctions. In addition, they will need to be able to generate high levels of support for our students whilst upholding the standards of behaviour expected at St Wilfrid’s. Part of this role involves the co-ordination of work to be shared with students who are working remotely at home due to COVID related extenuating circumstances. As one of the pastoral support team, you will collaboratively plan and deliver small group behavioural intervention for students with identified needs. Without doubt, this is a role for someone with a fair but firm approach to daily interactions with students.

The successful candidate must be someone who is passionate about student well-being with an ability to forge collaborative working relationships with colleagues at all levels in the Academy. They must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be focussed, resilient and good-humoured, with a proven success in supporting holistic development of children. They should have a desire to make a difference to safeguard the lives of our young people, providing them with the extra layers of support necessary to succeed, regardless of their background or ability.

The role involves a large amount of lone working, supported by the pastoral team. Therefore the successful candidate will need to be self- motivated, confident and comfortable with working independently. They will also need to be digitally literate, possess excellent record keeping skills, and be able to provide written reports to present to Academy leaders as required.

This post would be suitable for candidates who have worked within schools, social settings or community support, making a difference to the lives of the young people in their care. The Academy is focused on providing CPD for all staff to help bring about the best outcomes for our students due to outstanding professional expertise.

If you were to be successful in your application, you would be joining an Academy which strives for excellence. We benefit from purpose-built accommodation with excellent facilities. All in all, it is a wonderful place to work, learn and worship. Our vision is ‘Lord Direct us to Live Life to the Full’, rooted in John 10:10. Whilst Learning, we are Inspired and develop our Values through Experiences as each member flourishes. We aim to raise aspirations, realise potential and develop well-rounded successful staff and young people.

If you believe you can make a difference to our students and contribute to supporting the pastoral work of the Academy so that our students leave equipped to deal with the challenges they will face in the future, I would warmly welcome your application. Please submit the Support Staff application form, downloadable from the Academy website, along with a letter of application of not more than two A4 sides, detailing how your experience to date qualifies you for the post. Please send completed applications via Mrs Nightingale, (knightingale@saintwilfrids.com). The closing date for the receipt of applications is noon on Friday 3rd December 2021.

ABOUT ST WILFRID'S C OF E ACADEMY

St Wilfrid’s Church of England Academy provides a faith-led education for 11 to 18 year olds serving the Borough of Blackburn with Darwen and parts of Pennine Lancashire. We seek to provide an excellent education based upon a strong Christian foundation, as we develop all who work, learn and serve in our community. We benefit from purpose-built accommodation with excellent facilities. All in all, it is a wonderful place to work and learn. Visitors to St Wilfrid’s comment on the calm and purposeful environment, the friendly nature of our students and the welcoming nature of our staff.

We have a reputation for high academic standards. As a comprehensive school, we pride ourselves on providing teaching and learning which engages all students. The recent SIAMS inspector stated:

“Almost everyone describes the academy as being ‘one big family’ where all care for and help one another. This is understood to be the outworking of Christian values and teachings which underpin excellent behaviour and relationships. Students recognise in teachers a commitment to serve which for many is an aspect of their Christian faith. This prompts them to strive to provide the best and most supportive opportunities for all students. The result is exemplary academic and pastoral support which enables students to make good progress, attain excellent results and develop spiritually, morally, socially and culturally (SMSC 2016).”

MISSION STATEMENT

“St Wilfrid’s Church of England Academy sees education as an integral  part of the mission of the Church to proclaim God as Creator, Christ as Redeemer and the Holy Spirit as Inspirer of all that is good in human living.  The main purpose of the school is to provide an excellent education, both academic and social, in a Christian context, to enable its students to grow up to take their full part as citizens of this world and the next.”
